It's a bit tricky though Ben - you need to make sure that you have some way of taking it away from the MoT station, as they will undoubtedly deem it too dangerous to drive. On a flat-back recovery truck would probably be the only way. Then, for the people who have nowhere offroad to park it, it becomes a significant problem, whereas they could park it up with the MoT passed. Could take months to get Maserati to admit to the issue.

Ok, so marci due down at PK for service and mot at end of March when she comes out of hibernation. Have spoken to phil and he will check for me but really not keen (and I'm sure phil would not be either) of leaving her down there indefinitely if cracks are found :(
So was wondering if I should get the local garage that does the Alfa to check before I go? At least then I can decide to sorn and store till maserati decide what to do or not.......... Thoughts folks.
As an afterthought, I'm sure I'm not the only one who can forgive the reliability foibles that come with these beautiful cars.......but safety is just another thing and cannot regrettably be forgotten or forgiven. :(

I'd go with the local inspection Greg. It doesn't need a Maserati specialist, just a ramp, some cleaner and a careful look. Any problems, then you can store at home.

You have a valid point however, IMO, being a VOR would strengthen our argument and may force VOSA to act quicker if the car gets a 'red letter' declaring it to be too dangerous to drive, as every bit of pressure will help the case. FWIW, mine is up for its MOT in the next few weeks and if it fails on cracked wishbones I'll be 'loaded for bear' especially if it has to be transported.

Absolutely... Understand that one Ben!

I wonder if there's a mechanism for VOSA/DVSA to see these VOR fails directly?

What I thought Drew, guess i just wanted to have it confirmed. Will speak to my mechanic tomorrow and try to get her checked before the end of the week. Ironic really, took this week off to detail but has been too cold to apply paint, polish and wax......

No idea, but I'll ask the tester. However, as it's all computerised these days it may 'flag up' dangerous failures in order to identify 'trends'.

Pretty unlikely VOSA would pick it up through the MOT system as the failures are all through drop down menus and have specific wording so it ties in with the testers manual.

Yes agree unlikely. I urge everyone with cracked arms to go to the gov VOSA site and submit a form. The more we get the better. I spoke to Maserati UK today and they are now aware of this issue.

They certainly listened but then said if you think this needs investigating take the car to a Maserati dealer and have them investigate etc.... take pics and submit. How many coupe owners have theirs cars fettled at a main dealer? I reckon about less than 5%.

I get a feeling that Maserati may say well yes we will cover if the car has full Maserati history and no independents etc...

We could have a collection to fund your car going to a dealers for investigation, I would contributeshould only be an hour or 2 labour.

I think we'd be better sticking with a VOSA enquiry

I think at some point we will need to get a few cars infront of main dealers to prove that Maserati are completely aware of the situation. It would be handy if some of the cars actually had cracked wishbones when they inspect them though, as it could backfire if all were found to be free of cracks.

Proposal - if I was to call say Greypaul in Nottingham or Marshall in Peterborough to arrange a Saturday morning inspection of a group of cars, who would be up for it? Inspections at a few other dealers could be arranged around the country at the same time perhaps? We should be able to get a decent price for doing a batch of cars.

How about 14th or 21st Feb?

Happy to get mine inspected somewhere closer to Hertfordshire if others wanted to join in and do a group down south somehwere.

My 2006 coupe is still being serviced by a main dealer. Next service is up in 3,000 km, which at the current rate should be in about 5-6 weeks time. I'll have them check the arms then and if something is found it'll go straight to Maserati North Europe (we don't have a national Maserati distributor in Holland).

In relation to the alleged new designed parts, has anyone thought of putting in a FOI request to eurospares and maser uk re any communication from maserati regarding this part?
