i;m just contemplating ringing rac on monday (i'm paying them through the insurance co already) and telling them to fit the battery (tho i don;t know if they'll come n my situation?

They will attend for a flat battery, no need to wait until Monday as they operate a 24 hour 7 day service, but they wouldn't normally fit a new part for you. They are an emergency service not a maintenance service. But, having said that, I've heard some stories of amazingly helpful call-out guys going the extra mile to help people. You might be lucky but you would need to have the new battery to hand, they certainly won't have a spare one on their van.

They would at least jump start it and you could drive to Halfords - they're only six miles away from you, and open on Sundays.

Jon- i will research on trickle charger tho if it has anything to do with connecting to a power source I won't be able to do it as i don;t have that facility where i park.

Yes, the trickle-charger, battery-conditioner, Ctek, needs mains power. :(

Nadz,
Get a jump start and take it to Halfords, they will be cheaper and more trustworthy than the RAC, who have been know to rip people off..!!

Nadz, you need a battery with at least 95aH and a CCA of at least 800, 850 would be better. The halfords guys would know what that means.

Edit: just checked and the HSB019 is 100aH and CCA of 900, so as long as it fits in the space, it's great.

As P and Chris say: so long as it fits in the space available, and the terminals are on the correct side, it will do. The Halfords guys should be able to tell by looking at your car.

As to resetting the car. As far as I know there is no special procedure just put the battery in, hook it up, and start the car. You will probably need your code for the radio if it's the same system as used on the Quattroportes.

Nadz,
A battery is just a battery in any car, they should know how to connect it up and that's all they need to do..!! You could ask them to check for battery drain with the new battery connected and the car switched off, this will tell you if you have a large voltage drain going on and give an indication to what that may be..!! They can do that with a meter..!!

oops! as soon as they put the battery in i drove off…the navigation system didn;t go on like it normally does but i didn;t even check if it needs resetting as i was just happy the car was working..
the guy said that he didn;t want to put my battery in because then the blame would be put on him and he would get into trouble…even the other halfords assistants didn;t want to do it, that def made me nervous as he said he was nervous…it took them about 15 minz to put it in after the whole thing to get settled that i wouldn't blame them no matter what happened and that i pay for the battery lol
ah well alls well that ends well..thank you so much for the support guys..
btw if my radio has reset is that another thing i have to start worrying about?

Glad to hear it's working. It's funny to hear how working on a Maserati scared the Halfords' boys. They obviously thought the laws of electromechanics must be different in Italian cars!

You will need your unique anti-theft code for the radio/sat nav. You'll find the code with the car's original owner's package, I think it is on a credit card sized plastic card. One of the first things I do when I buy a new car is enter all those codes and serial numbers in my phone.

Just take your time and be careful when entering the code in - it doesn't give you many wrong chances.

On BMW's the code is all stored in the key so no need to reenter keycode. Not sure on a GT though.
