What would you change?

Imagine you were given the funds and technical resource to make any changes to your car what would they be?

For me the GS is near perfect but there's a few things i'd change:

  • I'd have a manual gearbox, not the one from the 4200, but i'd definitely prefer a manual, a DCT/DSG option would be good too
  • Longer gearing in 6th, mine revs at over 3k RPM at 80MPH which seems quite high considering what's typical for a V8 of this power, can't be great for economy
  • I'd quite like it to have a basic trip computer

For me the 4200 has always been a bit flat in the low rev range, so I would basically rob the engine and running gear (and box) from a GTS

Boomerangs, without a doubt.

Away from that, a central arm rest or high level centre consul like the GTS. I always fall into the middle when I go round a right hander.

I guess what I am saying is a hybrid of the two cars, GS size and weight, with the guts from a GTS.

My requirements are simple...

Sound like a Stradale (induction & exhaust mods)
Re-map to get some more power
A cup holder
Up-to-date satnav/audio system
Longer gearshift levers
Spacers or slightly wider offset wheels (see Benny's car)
And I'd probably have some wiring done to put in a couple of power-only USB ports to charge phones etc...

But in general, I'm happy, this really is a great little car
; )

Good suggestions, the 4.7 and Boomerangs would be great

i've sorted the ICE thing by going aftermarket

Strictly sticking with the car here... I think it would be to find a data feed crack to replace the NIT and display; lose the buttons and have a larger touch screen, custom manifolds, top to toe service and everything else is in hand :)

Better music & sat nav with bluetooth, IPod connection & steering wheel controls - it is something I am already looking into (well other than the controls).

A bit more power / torque especially low down (you can never have too much power). A lot less scuttle shake but not at the expense of more weight, in fact if it could lose a few kilos that would be nice.

Over than that I think overall it is a nice balance, fast enough to be fun, reasonably well planted but allows a bit of wiggling when you want it, lovely sound and for a ragtop surprisingly comfortable.

That's sounds like an Alfa 8C.

A 7th gear so I can motorway cruise at sub-3.5k rpm.
More torque so I can overtake with extreme prejudice without dropping a couple of gears to hit the sweet-spot in the rev range. I know, I know - it's all part of the fun but I do miss the XFR's willingness to turn into rocket with just a squeeze of the right foot and nothing else. But probably only 30% of the time.
A more robust interior - some of the materials on the GTS' interior are a bit thin (NOW I'm nit-picking... but on a car spec'd at over 100k I'd expect better).

But would I buy another one? **** yeah!

Another 50 bhp, a 7th (overdrive) gear, bigger brakes, better electronics and stone-chip resistent paint.
