Errr - is this an attempt an irony?By pretentious I guess you mean complex music written by virtuoso musicians for intelligent listeners
Favourite Bruce track
On the right track NeilHmmm, good question for the Question of the Day thread
First thought was maybe Clarence Clemons - but no.
What's the connection Mark? My knowledge is limited at bestOn the right track Neil
Is was Randy Brecker Who plays the trumpet on both. Bit of useless information really but him and his late brother Michael have played on some great records. What's the connection Mark? My knowledge is limited at best
Wild guess, Billy was backed by members of the Blackhearts for this track? Thanks mate. Love a bit of useless trivia - you should join in the fun of the QoD thread.
Today I have mostly been listening to Billy Idol - it's been a cleaning day after a trip to France with my old man.
The avorio leather takes some looking after and a bit of Billy help keeps the mood. What's been playin' with you?
Q: Who links Billy with Joan Jett?

Heard a story about some local bloke who had a red Ferrari with cream coloured leather seats, his girlfriend got in the passenger seat with a biro pen in her back pocket and it leaked.
Had 'American Stars N Bars' on this morning and had a 'number 11 moment' with Like A Hurricane
Tbh Neil I didn't have a clue, just a guess.Spot on with the Blackhearts connection - too easy for man with your background
My "number 11 moment" today was with the Georgia Satellites
Did you see the Marshall Amp story a few years back? Brilliant.
Love a bit of funk and Nile Rodgers is the man. I'm surprised Alfatwo (a.k.a. Funkmeister General) hasn't had a quiet wordChaka Khan/Chic/Sister Sledge
When you look at some of the quality playing with these artist, just checked out WikiLove a bit of funk and Nile Rodgers is the man. I'm surprised Alfatwo (a.k.a. Funkmeister General) hasn't had a quiet word
There was a BBC funk-umentary (sorry!) about Chic a while ago. An excellent watch. Nile Rodgers - Hitmaker. The people they worked with was incredible. When you look at some of the quality playing with these artist, just checked out Wiki
That Chaka Khan first solo album Chaka , most of the Average White Band on there along with George Benson,Randy Brecker, Michael Brecker, Rick Marotta, etc list of quality
Chic had the genius of Edwards and Rodgers but the drummer was **** hot too. Tony Thompson who drummed for Zeppelin at Live Aid with Phil Collins. He also played with David Bowie, Rod Stewart and a load more.
Very interesting. The whole Power Station Studio history is something I anorakly (is that a word?) trawl the internet for. There's another clip of that room which has the speakers in the control room on remote, Bob Clearmountain was the man who made that place. That must of been home for Tony Thompson as most of them Chic albums were recorded there. Robert Palmer was great, I've got all them early solo albums, Sneakin Sally Through The Alley and the rest, he looked a bit wasted in the interview, I do wonder whether his excess during this period contributed to his early demise. That 79/80 period Making Movies Dire Straits,The River Bruce Springsteen, Chic and Sister Sledge albums, then albums later on like Let's Dance Bowie and Madonna Like A Virgin. What a place. In recent times I've heard Jimmy Iovine on Ken Bruce show recently and Shelly Yakus in another interview both say Making Movies was one of their favourite albums they worked on. A while back somewhere on the net I saw a photo took in the Power Station of Bernard Edwards, Nile Rodgers together with Bob Clearmountain and BC is wearing a Power Station Studio T-shirt, if I could add a PSS T-shirt to my collection I would be a very happy bloke but my endless search on ebay and etsy etc have turned up nothing.lolThere was a BBC funk-umentary (sorry!) about Chic a while ago. Read a while ago that Bernard Edwards was not overly impressed with Thompson at first. Claiming he "plays too much".
An old Power Station clip expands a little. Be warned though, it does contain footage of two pretty boys from Duran Duran
