Well I think that I will plump for this:
automotech look to do OK stuff. Long enough and with beam jack and on balance for what we do a four post preferred.
Thanks to all for pointers.

They don't seem to have any info on the concrete requirements. Not that I can find anyway.

I do like the idea of their short 2 post. I wonder if you can set stops so I don't end up making the strad a grancab.

There's a thing called Maxjax
which is popular in the US and can be had over here. They seem to be a short 2 post lift which you can remove from the prepared base when not needed.
I'd want to investigate that claim very carefully but if ok seems to give an acceptable working height in a lower than ideal situation and you can have your garage floor back when not needed.

One thing I would suggest is to look at the operation of the jacking beam hydraulic arm. Mine is useless on a low car especially one like a 4200 with dry sump low engine. No clearance to allow the arm to move up and down. Likely fine at the rear and cars with wet sump or higher floor.

I could have got an air one but didn't think I'd use it much so more a just in case. I've used it once! Would have used it twice but car was too low

Most 4 post only need min 4" non reinforced concrete but some say 6". Certanly much less needed than 1 or 2 posters.

They have a 2 poster with H base plate for minimum concrete depth. Doesn't say what that is though.

The Automotech AS-235SBE Has been designed by Automotech with a full “H” style base plate. This machine is ideal for situations when the concrete floor has a minimum depth or imperfections in the surface.

If you have a compressor at home go for air operated beam jack so much easier in many ways.

To be fair I wouldn't feel happy with that if you saw the size of the plates I have that I didn't need but put on as an insurance policy.

Before this one with beam jack we looked at one without and considered making the jack from our ‘stock of choice spare materials’ aka the scrap pile. There are ways and means…..

italian or german are good quality, when i was shopping around i came across a lot of cheap looking lifts and decided to spend that bit more on some Ravaglioli lifts and frankly the quality is far far superior to any other lifts I've seen, can't put a price on your health and safety especially if working on your own

You will be forever tripping over those H extensions, believe me.

I see pictures of crazy behaviour on a regular basis on some of the sites I frequent.
If it won't go on as designed don't take risks.
