Sorry but I disagree with this.To be exact, it’s 90 days in a rolling 180. This has always been the law, it’s not a new thing that is coming in 2021. It is just that from 2021 onward entry and exit will be logged, unlike now. That is why so many expats have been in a panic for the past year or so because they are already living permanently and illegally in Europe and have been rushing to get residency before 2021. But note, once you take residency you can then only come back into the UK for 90 days in any rolling 180 days. It works both ways, always has but was never policed by immigration.
In most EU states residency ie PR is gained after 5 years living in an EU state. If you take residency and assuming you are a UK citizen you can return to UK as long as you like, you are still a UK citizen, taxation etc issues notwithstanding.
And what do you mean 'already living permanently and illegally in Europe'? I'm a UK expat living in Belgium and I'm fully legal, anyone is so long as they register etc, could you expand?
