Cigars

Yep, that can be arranged. I’m up for a garden SM cigar and wine party once this COVID madness disappears :welcome1:
Now there’s a great plan. I had the honour of being invited to Bebs place back in August to share a bottle and a Cuban and all I can say is wow!

The humidor contains better stock than many a cigar shop and he’s even met Fidel Castro and has a photo to prove it!

The wine cellar was equally impressive, only eclipsed by Bebs knowledge. He quickly established the bottle of 1979 Chateau Lafite I brought along had one too many f’s on the label and was only good for cooking with! 8017080171

You are too kind Frank.
Lets see if we can’t arrange something this summer - I’ve got an Imperial or two we can open to make sure we don’t run out.

I can bring a vintage Lambrusco or blue nun

I smoke maybe one cigar a year, cadged from an aficionado friend of mine. Glorious, but I could not tell you what it is other than Cuban.

However, over Christmas I was chasing down a vacuum leak in one of my cars and needed something to do a smoke test. In desperation I fired up a King Edward that my father would have got from some US Air Force personnel (tax-free and all that) some 50 years ago (it was still sealed up fortunately). It was bloody wonderful! I have one left, not sure how many years it will be til I get it lit up.

Hahahaha, I’m not a wine snob at all, I’ll drink anything as long as it’s not corked, maderised or even worse, non-alcoholic

I have had some excellent 1 euro bottles of red in Spain in the past. Very young and easily quaffable on your own. I was quite happy with those.

Likewise. Many years ago, I had reason to work in Ashford a couple of days every few months and I took the opportunity to nip to Calais on the Chunnel. On one occasion I went into a supermarket and bought 8 bottles of the cheapest red and 8 white ..... the cheapest being well under a euro a bottle.

All but 1 of the whites were borderline undrinkable but 3 of the reds were acceptable (and used for BBQs and cooking for a while).

We use to have a rule at Le Mans that there was a max €2.00 per bottle limit, some were OK but some made you wince drinking the first glass but after that they seem to improve ;)

Then a guy who was a wine buyer for one of the big chains joined us and prices started to rise, I think the limit was up to €5.00 in 2019

If you mix Coca Cola with red wine it makes everything drinkable. It also allows (for example at Le Mans where refrigeration is an issue) for wine to be drunk all day. Start off with a 50/50 mix in the morning and enjoy it as a long drink and then move to it 'neat' as the day progresses.

I favour port or scotch over wine with a cigar - especially with a robust cigar.
Absolutely, anything sweet goes well with a decent cigar. Port, Madeira, Sauternes etc. It’s probably why I prefer a Bourbon rather than Whisky.

Is this a cigar thread? :rofl5:

@Bebs I mentioned to you before, I do love a Montecristo open Regatta.

I can’t stand wine or anything sweet with a cigar though, Brandy is a cliche but its what I enjoy best..
