my turn now! cant believe it, i was due to drive to chelmsford this morning, got the car ready last night, parked it up last night, no issues!

came out this morning, turned the key and it just turns over, doesnt try to start at all.

i have good fuel pressure.

if i turn it over for a good 5 seconds it comes up ERROR on the dash.

what can i do!? having just got a lift back from chelmsford i now need to try fix it, i have cleaned the throttle pot, throttle body, crank sensor plugs/wires but no difference so far.

I think the ERROR is from the suspension system and just thrown up as a result of the non start - just out of interest have you checked for any fault codes ?

Oh , that don't help . Might be worth you looking at unidiag , free and easy .
good luck - if anything else springs to mind will let you know .

Ok, this is a bit oldscool: but do the sparks work properly so is there an inflection (I think the "Zündfunken" is called like this) , are injectors working so does the exhaust smells "fuelly" ?.
On the other hand when on mine the battery is weak, it still turns the engine but won`t start (at least for a while)
Did you allow the "theft prevention" to detect the key ?

But I agree unidiag is a good idea if craftmanship doesn`t lead to a result.

Well it's got to be either fuel, spark or compression :)

We know we have fuel, and can possibly assume that we have the right amount.
I've never heard of an engine of previous good character losing compression overnight.
So IMHO it'll be spark. Loose connection somewhere like a TDC sensor.
I'd doubt the CODE as wouldn't that stop it turning over, which is what I think the 4200s do.

Tere was a post just a few weeks ago that had similar symptoms, it was the TDC, the wire had been knocked off the sensor.

Maybe completely unrelated but mine failed to start but turned over when the starter motor went, it had been gradually taking more and more turns to get the car started and then one day having driven to a pub for lunch wouldn't start to get me home.

yeah that was me who told him, mine was doing the same when i rebuilt it, but it was at least trying to start in these circumstances, mine now is doing nothing just turning over

Hi Beau,

Here's all I can think of:
Check all fuses - under the dash, under the passenger side floor and in the boot. Is one gone?
I had a short in the coil pack wiring under the covers when I got my car and it took out the ECU fuse under the bonnet (although that have a check engine light) which stopped the thing starting.
Check the 2 relays at the front end of the boot fuse box. These are for the fuel pumps and ECU.
Does the spark plug test show you've got a spark? If not, follow the ECU route.
Is the injector wiring okay?
When the starters is turning, are you getting a number of lights sporadically lighting/flashing up on the dash? If so, probably ECU related.
If you had the crank sensor off, is it a new one? If old, has it failed?

If you're really stuffed, I've got a spare ECU test lead you could borrow.... Just pm me

Hope this helps,

Steve

Beau

My 3200 has 99% always started first time and the only time it has not started was when I had problems with the throttle body and when the battery is not fully charged/ fairly discharged after being not run for a while, it had enough to turn the car over but not fire up. Eventally the car would not turn over but charging the battery cured the problem.

PS I also have a spare good TP sensor if you want loan to try.

Beau, was the padlock light off on the dash. I have seen this many times, you try and start the car without success and the reason is staring you in the face.

Lock, unlock the car, make sure the padlock light is not on and it usually starts.

Make sure you have fuel pressure next time by way of testing both valves on the fuel rails, failing that, its usually the TDC sensor.

Balls. - I have this symptom now. Off out to find the TDC sensor.

My alarm / remote locking no l longer working so can't do that particular reset. Can I assume "there is a fuse for that" too?

Have you got the padlock? That's a CODE error indicating the immobiliser can't read the RFID chip in the key.

If not, the problem is TDC sensor, you don't need the reset AFAIK

Important to remember that the battery needs to be 100% on the 3200 - if its a little weak the car will fail to start. Jump start or put battery on charge perhaps?
