CAR AUCTIONS

These are getting more and more tempting. A relatively modern and very usable 200mph Ferrari for less than £50k.
A 612 is certainly on my radar as a possible replacement for my 400i. (I prefer the looks of the 456, but the 612 is simply a better, and bigger, car.)
Agree a lot of car for the money as long as you have a rainy day fund

Andy, mine cost next to nothing to run over 2 years and 7k miles. It was a late low mileage car with full main dealer history so I guess that is the clue. I would not buy a pre '06 car based on driving and my experience. The cars are a huge contrast to drive. It is getting hard to find them but I am sure there are some.

Early car. Spend more on a later one and you won’t regret it.
A later one would have to be "twice as good" because they seem to be about double the price ... at least on this one:

There are a few others on Pistonheads, with a One to One car in excess of six figures ...

I don’t see it like that at all, I see that you buy a different model at the price point rather than saying, well I need to spend £75-85k on a late car.

At £40-50k there’s lots of options, but sadly not good Ferraris. For a good Ferrari it’s around £55-60k and up for a 360 or a 612. Anything else that is particularly good is dearer, such as F430, Cali T, FF etc.

Aside; I may have one due in a few weeks in the late £50k’s which is a later ‘06 car.

And good to see the 3200 making £16,800 ... a very strong price in the current climate for a car with 65k on the clock. Maybe 3200's are making a (much deserved, IMHO) comeback(?)!

This was cheap. It’s one of the best in the country and is easily worth more. But as with any auction, it’s just what happens on the day.

I was there with the intention of bidding/buying it. But a little earlier in the auction, something else cropped up that I couldn’t resist!

Without this, I’d have gone toe-to-toe with the bidder on the Merak, so the price would have gone higher (at least by a little, just depending on our respective resolves!).

Bottom line, the Merak buyer got a steal, and well played them. Hopefully they’ll love it, as in real life, it looked absolutely fabulous.
