Hello.i never really had any electrical dashboard related woes..just one with a lamppost before it could occur!how about 5 mil nylon milled to fit into the rear on the 42 light apature then bonded in.that way no cutting or welding .if its a tight fit (really good)and you didnt mind a slight gap...

Morning.yes that's the way I would go.its going to be tricky making a curved cut on the car itself.using a welded on steel template then cutting with the Plasmer tank out would be the way forwards.the boot would have to be in for line up then just the small matter of wiring!!!!sounds doable.rob
