Nice little video I just come across simulating gas flow through different types of crossover pipes.

Gap between pipes (40mm) is too big. Needs to be no more than an inch really unless you're looking to bend some pipes to bring the gap down.

EDIT: Thats for a GT, not sure what the dimensions are for earlier model.

The 4200 centre section is narrow at one end and quite wide at the other... I will find out the dims and report back

Right... A kind forumer took some dims off their stock resonator for me and it suggests the gap between them is 30mm on one end and around 140mm at the other end

So this universal piece should work at one end

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNIVERSA...IECE-ADAPTER-3-XP3-Mitsubishi-1-/162664790799

Then use some pipe and flexible connections on the other to meet the wider end but it will be a bit of a Frankenstein's monster... I'm seeing my welder tomorrow I'll talk to him about getting some pipes bent to link up the other end.

Thats a 3" OD pipe, you'll need a 2.5" (63mm) OD right? Although if you're using a welder he might be able to do the whole thing including the 'X'. Worth getting a quote to compare.

It is all coming off (again) tomorrow for some more adjustments to my custom cat pipes I had made a couple of years ago. The cat end is a 60mm OD female so it is a bit out as you said I'll check again and see if they havd another size. I'll ask my welder if he is up for making the whole thing

I don't think this can be classed as a X... Maybe like a K...? K- pipe... It doesn't sound like a X or H

Yeah that looks about the same as mine (probably close to the 3rd pipe style in the video above). I'd be interested to know how much difference you notice between what you have and the 'proper' X you're going for.

I noticed they are similar but if you notice mine is asymmetrical and is poorly welded... So what you have is better quality.

The "proper" X has a very different tone more high pitched with less of a deep drone down low. It amplifies the rasp of the engine... If you ever heard @conaero 's black gransport it is basically that although with the valves open it made your ears bleed because the boxes were gutted.

That looks really nice. I wonder what difference it made having the crossover closer to the engine.
I'm sure that made a lot of difference to the noise, was pretty loud. I'll see if I can find vid of my 'rev off' with @Contigo at BIAMF a couple of years ago

@jasst thanks for sharing it sounds great. That looks like one of the universal X cross over sections that they welded in. They go from wide to narrow very quickly as Zep said they have moved the section closer to the cats/engine Not sure if it will make a huge difference as there was a resonator there before so maybe it is more efficient?

I know I'm obsessing a bit over these cross overs on eBay but I found this one made our of two mandrel bends... This could be installed just after the cats then the pipes will need to bend in to the link pipes (M138 cars) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-5-Cust...rentrq:45ae760b1690aad0c6ddad6ffff9f035|iid:1

Yes it is one of the universal x crossovers, by Magna flow or Power flow, Was done at Top Gear in Dorset who are the main UK agents for both
