Well after the trauma of seeing my 4200 driven off to Australia after 6 years I feel a bit better having picked up my GT from a private owner in Wales. The 2nd service was carried out prior at dick Lovetts as part of the deal (around £1800 I beleive)

Wow this is a big car, over a foot longer it only JUST fits in the garage.I really had wanted 19 inch wheel as i was worried the 20inch would give a horrible ride but it actually is fine, better than the old 4200 (probably down to the Skyhook)

Yes this is a quick car but doesn't FEEL as quick as the 4200 with its brutal and aggressive power delivery. The 4200 makes you drive like a hooligan, the GT is quieter, smoother and a different animal. The auto box also obviously takes away some of the sporty feel but although I loved the CC transmission I had had enough of paddling the car around England for 6 years! It is nice to be able to just point and Press , & to drive smoothly in traffic. Perhaps its my age!

Pressing the Sport button you can actually feel some difference.

Its amazing how car technology & design moves on.I guess the 4200 was designed in the 90's and the GT 10 years later.Lots more technology in the Gt, build quality appears faultless and I don't expect anything to wrong (not that the 4200 ever did) I have benn offered an extended Mas warranty when the 3 yr one is up but it is a lot of money and I would not expect to need it.

Fuel economy seems better; the tripcomputer was showing an average of 23mpg when I got home; I rarely saw better than 17mpg with the old car.

The insurance co made me activate the standard Tracker (£180-£300 a year) and only an extra £250 a year to insure a much more valuable car.
The tracker/alarm etc seems to draw a lot of current when not being used and I have already had one flat battery after standing for several days (no boot cut off switch) so I have invested in a CTek trickle charger.

I shall miss the old 42 but so far so good!

Ditto Enzo , one would have to allow extra window cleaning bills into the servicing budget , better still cctv and have it permanent up on the Tele with picture in picture job done

Enjoy Ratbag she looks a beaut

Lovely! Can the auto box be manually controlled like a TouchTronic type system? Any good?

Found they work pretty well actually with a decent sized engine :)

Lovely car - and great to see another in Tunbridge Wells!

I have had my GT since last June and covered about 6K in it so far - main dealer purchased and they "threw in" a 1 yr maserati extension to the warranty. Just coming up to its first MOT, though no concerns. Like you, I find the reliability and finish great though also had the battery problem once- same solution applied. Only real problem was a pothole (more pot crevasse) in E Sussex which was hit as an alternative to hitting the large white van in the oncoming lane - exit tyre, but at least the rim was ok,(minor ding to alloy side only). Best run so far was 430 mile run to Dunbar and got 26 mpg but more to the point was one of the most enjoyable, relaxed and comfortable "decent distance" drives I have ever done. Comfort, driving enjoyment and long range touring quality is such that I am now contemplating a road trip to Northern Italy which I would never have contemplated in my last car (M5 touring).

Sport mode does add some noticable edge to the drive character, but it doesnt lose its basic GT style character and the auto box seems really comptetent in all modes, far better than the M5 box was in my view.

I agree with you re size - it is even bigger all round than the M5 touring, which does make the garage a little crowded - and some multi storey car parks seem a tad daunting!

The car is never going to be a track day monster, but I doubt that any owners were buying it for that - but for sheer enjoyment on a long run I cant think of much that beats this car. I understand you missing the 4200, but I dont miss my M5!

GT , Sort of confirms it for me, as with all things we strive for the best of the range as in GTS against the GT , without a doubt the GTS being the better car , but ive only met one person (granturismodan) that was a tad dissappointed with the GT , hence he swiftly went and ordered the GTS,
Putting things in perspective Dan is very track oreintated , and obviously has a few driving skills more than most , but as things stand at the moment its the shape the interior and of course the continued Maserati heritage that cooks the books for me , So i for one would be happy with the refinements of the GT , but not to say i wouldn't strive to upgrade either the braking and or engine performance , hopefully i'll be there soon
