Well after the trauma of seeing my 4200 driven off to Australia after 6 years I feel a bit better having picked up my GT from a private owner in Wales. The 2nd service was carried out prior at dick Lovetts as part of the deal (around £1800 I beleive)
Wow this is a big car, over a foot longer it only JUST fits in the garage.I really had wanted 19 inch wheel as i was worried the 20inch would give a horrible ride but it actually is fine, better than the old 4200 (probably down to the Skyhook)
Yes this is a quick car but doesn't FEEL as quick as the 4200 with its brutal and aggressive power delivery. The 4200 makes you drive like a hooligan, the GT is quieter, smoother and a different animal. The auto box also obviously takes away some of the sporty feel but although I loved the CC transmission I had had enough of paddling the car around England for 6 years! It is nice to be able to just point and Press , & to drive smoothly in traffic. Perhaps its my age!
Pressing the Sport button you can actually feel some difference.
Its amazing how car technology & design moves on.I guess the 4200 was designed in the 90's and the GT 10 years later.Lots more technology in the Gt, build quality appears faultless and I don't expect anything to wrong (not that the 4200 ever did) I have benn offered an extended Mas warranty when the 3 yr one is up but it is a lot of money and I would not expect to need it.
Fuel economy seems better; the tripcomputer was showing an average of 23mpg when I got home; I rarely saw better than 17mpg with the old car.
The insurance co made me activate the standard Tracker (£180-£300 a year) and only an extra £250 a year to insure a much more valuable car.
The tracker/alarm etc seems to draw a lot of current when not being used and I have already had one flat battery after standing for several days (no boot cut off switch) so I have invested in a CTek trickle charger.
I shall miss the old 42 but so far so good!
