2004 4200 Radio/ hazards not working

Hi, new to Maserati ownership and have loved the experience so far. For the last few months it has been parked up and went to it yesterday and the battery had gone almost flat. Unfortunately, it was then jump started (not by me!!!) and since then the display had reverted to Italian (now re-set back to english) however the radio has no display (but all other functions work on the screen as they should) and there is no sound from any speakers and the hazards aren't working either but indicators do work. I've checked the fuses and all are okay.
Any help would be much appreciated

Removing it is but you don’t have to take it out, just get to the back of it. The fuse is on the left hand edge near the speaker and CD connections. It is under the front armrest. I have a Spyder and removing the top of the armrest to get at the NIT is just a few screws, not sure about a Coupe. I’m sure a search of the forum will show instructions for how to do it. You just need enough access to get the fuse out. The hazards run off the NIT display panel (don’t ask why) so that could point to the NIT fuse as well.

Sorry for the rough picture but you can just about make out the fuse.

If you have auditorium there is also a fuse in the ASK amp which is hidden behind the main battery.

Ahh! I haven't checked that. Is removing the NIT a big job?

Link below gives you a guide of how to get to the back of the NIT. If your just checking the fuse on the nit then take the arm rest lid off. Peel the rubber mat back on the tray under it and locate the screws. Undo those and you then have access to the back of the NIT. You can pull the rear vents out if you need a bit more room.

Wowwww; back up!

You may just need to do a battery reset when you get a good battery on it again. It is Italia, they throw a wobbly every now and again. Recently I left home in mine to have no fan, indicators, wipers or washers etc. Car started and drove fine. Stopped and did a reset and everything came back. The Italian menu is default so caused by low battery for sure.

The issue with no indicators, fans, wipers and washers is often the spring in the ignition barrel sticking / getting weak on the 4200. Not heard of the same issue on a GS as you have a start button rather than the last part turn of the key to start the car.

My 4200 used to do it occasionally slight waggle of the key and the spring would click back to the correct position and fans , indicators and wipers would all work as normal again. Battery reset not always required for that issue.

Thank you so much or the advice and pictures. I managed to replace the fuse in the NIT this morning and the radio is now working :)
Hazards briefly worked after the radio coming back to life but have now stopped again!

That’s great news, glad it helped.

I know we aren’t supposed to jump start these cars, but I have done it carefully without problems so far, once or twice. Not sure if I can explain the hazards not working again, if the indicators are still OK. It might be worth a reset as mentioned above, turn the power off in the boot for a minute or two then back on.

Might be worth checking if there is a separate hazard relay. Some cars have it combined with the indicators and some don’t.

Is it just your hazards / indicators not working or have you also lost windscreen wipers and interior fan as well ? If they are all out then the likely cause is the ignition barrel is worn for the accessories switch. Waggle the key with the car running and see if they start working again.

If its just the hazards and indicators and another battery reset doesnt cure it then pull the relay and test it. Its located under the dashboard its a green unit.

Part number is 171375

Its item 13 on the diagram below

Thank you. I will definitely have a look at the relay tomorrow.
The strange thing is the indicators work as they should but the hazard lights do not, so i'm thinking it could be the switch?? Or is there a link between the NIT and the hazards?
They did briefly start to work when I replaced the fuse in NIT unit earlier, (coincidence?)
However they now don't work at all. Have turned the battery isolator on a few times today and left it but no luck.

There is a link from the NIT to the back lights round the air con controls and hazard switch but as far as im aware it only powers the back lights for the various controls and info buttons.

If they light up withyour headlights on then its getting the power from the NIT for the back lighting.

The indicator and hazard switch are different parts of the wiring loom. The only place they crossover as such is the relay and the bulbs. Hence if the indicators work the relay should be fine.

No harm in unplugging the relay and making sure the contacts are clean and use a 12v drill battery to test the relay if your unsure just incase its getting flakey.

As you say though the hazard switch could do with pulling and testing you could also bridge the switch connection to check in effect that the harness is intact as the hazards should flash if you bridge the switch connections proving the switch is faulty.

With respect I don’t think that is quite the full picture. The hazard switch is part of the NIT screen module. I don’t know exactly how the circuit board is configured but the activation for the hazard switch is integral to the NIT screen module wiring. When I replaced my NIT and screen I had to add a new hazard switch into the centre console so I had to understand the wiring a bit.

I’m not sure why the hazards aren’t working in this case but given that there was a problem with the NIT they could be related.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you for all the detailed replies. It's been a bit too cold the last few days to carry on getting to the bottom of the hazard issue. Although, it has sat for the last few days and fired it up this morning and the hazards were working perfectly!!! Now 10 mins later, they've stopped again.
MOT booked for next week, so I will keep investigating the problem.
