I have a small oil leak from the air con compressor on the old 3200GT,It's a Sandan SD7V16 original fit unit

I've sort of worked out where the leak may have originated, and as its made in the US/Japan you can still get all the seals and stuff

Any idea's guys

The compressor for a 3.0 Alfa 166 is a bolt on replacement if you need to get a replacement. Pattern parts are fairly readily available. The dryer filter is a standard Bosch part for an Alfa 155.

It's a pig of a job to do though. One of those things where it will only just fit through the available space. The oil leak is most likely from the compressor oil filler plug. Compressor holds 135ml of PAG oil from memory.

In the German Forum the Sanden Compressor are said to be getting tiny cracks over time which makes them leaking.

Cheers Trev, so any SD7V16 compressor will suffice then, but I did notice a few different model numbers though..

Not quite any Dave. You'll need a 1159. The basic compressor is the same, but has different mounts/ casting/ hose connections to suit different cars.

It's worth mentioning that if you buy new, it's worth draining the compressor of oil and replace with PAG with a dye in it. Smear a little PAG on any seals when replacing too.

Most probably leaking from the front main seal behind the magnetic clutch. Common problem...........seal/gaskets kits are available from your friendly A/C specialist. I did mine myself few years ago still going strong with nil pressure/oil loss. System will need a gas evacuation and pressure test to see where it's losing pressure as oil leak will also mean gas leak! Or replace pump which is expensive. Good luck.

If anyone does remove your AC pump you MUST block up the pipe couplings as if left dry, its only a matter of days till the unit seizes and it rendered completely useless.

If you can get some oil in there, all the better, you can buy PAG 50 from Eurocarparts for about £10 for half a litre.

Cheers, But for now until I get things sorted, if I just deactivate the clutch with the Econ button or pull the wire the compressor won't turn

Word of caution. My AC compressor disintegrated at the clutch area causing it to seize and stopped the aux belt turning.
