hello everybody,
I'm owning a 2003 coupe 4200 since a couple of weeks only.
Can anyone tell me, if there is an update of the navigation firmware available ?
Someone from Navteq told me that the quality of their maps would depend
on the capability of the navigation software. And though I'm owning the latest
2010/2011 CD's compared with modern navs the map is of very basic quality.

Hi Ludwig,

The Navtech system in the 4200 uses as you so rightly say, CD's. Even with the latest CD's, the software is more, or less the same and quite basic when you compare to such as TomTom. I think any updates are restricted to the CD's, I have not heard of a firmware update to the Navtech Hardware, if you find one let me know, please..!! This is old technology that has been around for some years and no matter what Navtech think, compared to most this is outdated.
Sorry to be negative, but that's where we are at.
Any chance you would be prepared to copy/burn your CD's for the benefit of other memebers, including me. I only have the 2008 CD which is quite old now. I do have if you are interested a copy of the Major Routes of Europe, if that's any good to you as a swap..? Please let me know.

Cheers

To be quite blunt Ludwig your be better off with a Tom Tom end of story , even if you were to improve the software and apply the finest latest updates you still wont be able to program it whilst your moving , and it will still take an ice age to enter all the correct details .....whats the point ending up frustrated getta tom tom or any 50 euro satnav

I have to agree with Loz, but I also realise that if something is in the car, if you are like me it has to work...!!!

Ludwig. I find that the sat nav screen on a 4200 makes a perfect place to attach the Tom Tom holder. Other than that, the whole thing's pretty useless.
