4200 put away for the winter and thinking of selling

So I managed to get out today for the last run of the season. The road tax expires end of the month so today was my last real chance of a run in daylight. I really enjoyed the run up to Cullen on the Moray coast. It's the open roads and light traffic around there which really makes you appreciate these cars. I took these pictures after washing the car on my return home and prior to laying up for the winter. My main regret is the lack of times this year that I've actually had the chance to take the car out. This is down to a combination of a lack of time and poor weather every time I was planning a drive! Consequently I will probably advertise the car next spring but if anyone on the forum is interested or knows of anyone that may be, in a manual 4200 GT coupe with 50,000 on the clock, then drop me a PM. The car is well known to quite a few of the forum members and has been very well cared for. I could hold onto the car but I feel it's not getting the use it should. I'd be interested in other people's thoughts on the matter. That's one thing about this forum, there's never a lack of opinions on such things!

I'm in the same boat David, have kept her on the road hoping for a few good backend days, but alas, I think hibernation looms.
Not long till April comes round again, and you will be sorry to part with her and difficult to replace.Have a good winter and look forward to meeting again next season.

Oh no, don't sell.
They just improve with age and one day, with your lowish mileage, you'll be saying that you wish you hadn't!

Cheers Stewart. As you say, catch up with you at one of the Scottish events next year.

For those who lay up their car over the winter, a question........do you periodically start the car, leave it on a trickle charge or????? I’m concerned about fuel wash down the cylinders and polluting the oil if I overdo this.

I keep it covered in the garage on trickle charge but give it a start up, move & ride down the lane & up again then back to slumber.

I have never done this (not used a car), but I would imagine the secret of the drive down the lane is to get the engine thoroughly warm, to the point that any condensation evaporates in the internals. 20 minutes sounds about right. Anything less you are producing moisture that will end trapped in the oil.

All the above is a total guess, but feels about right.

I have never been one to SORN in the winter, I always live in hope of decent dry, salt-free(-ish) day. Having said that it know can be disheartening when you feel you haven't been out and about in your car as much as you would like. That was one of the reasons I sold my AC 3200 18 months ago. Despite what many say I haven't regretted it for a single minute - been there, done that, itched scratched and left me feeling somewhat underwhelmed. My 400hp now comes in the form of a '70 Mustang - no warning lights, throttle body issues, throttle pedal re-sets, limp mode, suspension errors......good luck whatever you decide !

Well, another winter has passed and my 4200 is back on the road. I'm still not sure whether to keep or sell. I'm not sure that I'm motivated enough to advertise as you then have to deal with loads of t*****s that either want to sell the car for you or have no concept of the marque. So, for the time being. if there are any forum members who are after a very well looked after manual 4200 with 50k on the clock and excellent documented history then PM me. Otherwise I will hold on to her anticipating sunny days ahead and the chance to put some miles under the tyres!
