Hello SportsMaserati folks
As many of you know the 4200 gear knob has been NLA for a number of years. When they were available the cost over around £450+VAT
Over the past year or so I have been on the hunt for a replacement gear shifter for my 4200. I found zero used shifters for sale and only one "new" wood finish shifter from old stock that Eurospares had and they wanted close to £800 for it. That is way too much so I have gone down the fabrication route... a kind forumer has leant me a mint shifter he was keeping on ice this has been submitted to an engineering company who is known by another forumer...
I appreciate that my proposal is currently a little vague until I have some renders from the 3D model the engineering company is working on but these are the instructions we gave the engineering company:
The objective is to maintain a stock/OEM look but with much better longevity than the leather wrapped gel stickered original item. This is what to expect:
Aluminium Proposal (sketch)
Cost estimate is £100-200/each + shipping. Obviously the more people on board for the first batch the cheaper the closer to £100 we can get.
Time scale for a renders will be 3 - 4 weeks at which point we will be ready to manufacture pretty quickly
Any questions let me know below

I appreciate that my proposal is currently a little vague until I have some renders from the 3D model the engineering company is working on but these are the instructions we gave the engineering company:
- Manufacture a pattern gearknob from aluminium using CNC mill
- Reverse lift must be the same
- Mounting to be compatible with D shaped shaft but a more simple solution than stock to avoid fitment problems between early/later models - details to follow
The objective is to maintain a stock/OEM look but with much better longevity than the leather wrapped gel stickered original item. This is what to expect:
- All aluminium (not leather)
- Same/similar shift gate pattern on the top
- Retain the horizontal seam in the leather that separates the top and sides of the leather wrapping the shifter by etching a channel into the aluminum in the same position
- Remove the vertical seam at the rear of the shifter where the leather meets so it is smooth there
- Instead of an oval gel sticker which will wear quickly we have asked for a trident releif to fill this entire space (see sketch below)
