4200 servicing advice...

Apologies if this should be on another thread...

I bought my 4200 nearly one year ago and have done about 5000 miles in that year. It's coming up to MOT time and the annual service. When I bought the car the servicing record states:

43,500 mile service done on 11th May 2009 (actual mileage was 33,550)

Past servicing states:

31,000 mile service done on 29th October (30,199 actual miles).

So - what's my next service??? I bought from an indie and although it states it's had the big 43,500 service done, there is no guarantee they followed the exact service spec.

What would you advise I do and what price (ball park) should I look to pay?

Finally - any recommended Norh East garages to have this done at would be appreciated.

Cheers

Mark

Not sure about North East garages X1ons...you might have to travel.......

http://www.gtautos.co.uk/index.html

http://www.millbrookecars.com/maserati.html...these guys guys had a few recommendations on the ahheeemmm...board with no name.......see prices too....nearest to you?

http://www.ferrarimaserati.co.uk/services.htm....again prices and some recommendations.....

Pricing......this is off one Southern indie site.......

Maserati Servicing:

Model Annual Service Major service Cambelt Clutch
3200GT £495 £845 £395 Call
4200/Gransport/QP £495 £845 N/A £995

Basically an annual or 6k miles equivalent service......oils/fluids/filters/flush...check if it needs the 2 yearly air con treatment, and or if old enough, drivebelts/lamda sensors/carbon filters?!

Cheers for the reply.

I can see the lamda sensors were done Jan 09 aboout 6k ago as I have the receipts. No receipts for anything else.

What's the best thing to do? Don't fancy walking in and asking a garage as they are likely to fleece me!

Re the air con, is that every 2 years and can it be done by an air con recharge place that's none masa specific?? One near me advertises for £30.

Well, you have a few specimen price lists, why not ring around and ask them to go over what they do for said service and listen to their advice/info? Then if price difference ask them to price match. The aircon-recharge (2 years yes) thing would be a similar price I think!

So do you have a stamped up service book? You can ask previous owners to give permission for copy of invoices to be released to you.....not easy to get them to do that though!

Not sure how far North you have in mind but MP Supercars in Edinburgh are recommended by several on this forum, inlcuding me.

Hi Mark,

I just had my car serviced by Migliore in the west midlands and like you Maranello's stamped the 31.5 K service before selling to me. Though I had no invoice showing exactly what had been done. I ask the guys at Migiore to do an annual service after getting their advice as I'd only done around 2K miles last year, but asked for the gearbox oil to be changed as well.

The car is now approaching 4 years old so did not need much else, the plugs were checked and found to be recent therefore not needed to be changed. Migliore change the drive belts as a matter of course as they have found the belt deteriorating on some of the cars that have come in. So it was only oils and filters that needed doing.

Only addition I wasn't expecting was a rear arm needing to be re-bushed on the track rod end (best description for it I can come up with)

I did spend a few moments thinking whether to take it to main dealer etc but thought I'd get a indie to do it in the end.

Thanks for the replies - I think I 'll give them a call and see what they think. I suppose getting them to evaluate the state of the plugs, belts etc is a good start.

What did you pay? (if I'm allowed to ask that??)

Also going up to Edinburgh is not out of the question - although something in Newcastle would be better!!

So JCT 600 in Leeds are offering £595 for an annual service - filters and oil apparently. Normally it's £695 but they gave me a 'deal'!!

Expensive/cheap??? What do you think?

An air con recharge with desanitation is £150 - that seems a lot!

As far as I understand it an air con top up is the same wherever you go. Its done by an automated machine so you cant get it wrong. With the sanitation you can by a can for a tenner that does the same job. Thirty quid sounds about right.

Still worthwhile ringing around the local indies in N East/Midlands and then get JCT600 to price match...they did for me last year but I went to Autoshield as they proved the brakes and discs at a more competitive rate plus are highly thought of!

Yes, thirty is the going rate for the air-con cleaning.

Thanks for this P

I think JCT were £30 for the cleanse but £150 for the cleanse and the recharge. I'll call a few indies tinder what they quote and report back. Will also get new quotes on the servicing. To be honest, JCT is Leeds, could do with a good indie up in Newcastle.

I meant to post to let you know about my service.

Took it to DBM specilialist motors in Ryton for the service. They do high end performance cars - had a Ferrari in there with mine.

They put it through it's MOT - flew through. They then assessed the car and felt it needed oil/ oil filter/ air filter/ pollen filter/ gear box oil and then the normal lubrications. Including the MOT and using genuine Maserati parts and the Helix oil it cost £560. Maserati stealers seemed to be nearer £1500.

They actually held onto the filters (air/pollen) to show me the state of them. The pollen filter was filthy, the air one even worse - you could shake it and have bits of grit fall out of it. It was obvious due to this and also due to the state of the oil - the servicing was not done correctly only 11 months prior.

All in all - the guys there seemed superb and very knowledgable. Whilst they are not Maserati - they still know their stuff and certainly take pride in what they do. My car certainly runs a lot smoother now.

X1ons......once again the ugly head of car servicing fraud raises its head, it may even have been 2 services before that!!!

Not sure if you want or can name and shame.......?!

Good that you feel you got a good service this time though!!!

Result...always pays to shop around....Trouble with main dealers is the hourly charge. When I had my 3200 in 2007 DL in Cardiff did a deal because it was an older Maserati but it was still £120 an hour...Most specialists, depending on locationcan almost half that....You are paying for the plush showroom and all things that make you feel special at the main dealer.

You are so right - labour costs makes the price so much higher. The fact they also specialise in a certain car also allows them to raise costs. If you have a specific problem that only they have the equipment for then you have no choice. But from what I can gather - servicing can be done elsewhere allowing you to spend your money on other things. In my car a wheel refurb and chrome bolts!!!

Glad you got good service. If you have gone up the road to MP Supercars I suspect it would have cost a tad more.

My car is a lot better now that the gearbox oil has been changed.

The other things which I had checked at my last service were brake fluid (changed it), coolant (left it) and power steering fluid (left it) and the auxillary belt (left it).
