I thought that after 8 weeks of ownership of my 4.7 Granturismo S MC shift I thought I would share my experience so far. I know when I've been lurking on forums wanting a car I wonder what the real life experience is like!
It was quite a long journey to get to finally buying one, mainly because I am so fussy, and once I'd seen a few cars with a wide range of specs I was unsure what to go with. I started the journey looking at all sorts and tried a 4.2 and 4.7 both ZF and MCShift. I absolutely loved all of them but for me, once I drove an MC Shift I felt it was the car for me as it was to be an irregular fair weather daily. I was also fixed on getting a white one (maybe it was the car at the top of this forum every time I signed in!).
Finally struck a deal on a 2010 2 owner, 34k miles car just before Christmas so 8 weeks later here I am writing this.
The first thing which struck me was the build quality of the car. It is SO much better than I had expected it to be. It doesn't squeak, it doesn't rattle, it doesn't leak and it's comfortable!
The first time I put the whole family in I knew how usable this car is. My kids are small, one is three and the other 6, and they both fit beautifully with their seats in the back.
It's no real surprise we all fit so well, because it's a HUGE car! You really feel how big it is when parking it but it gives the car huge presence.
Of course the sound is just intoxicating, the drive is superb and I cannot get enough of just being in it. It manages to have a wonderful sense of occasion whilst being so useable.
The biggest concern I had when buying the car (and I know it divides opinion) is the MC Shift. I know the 'right choice' is the ZF. It's smoother, doesn't require maintenance etc etc but the gearbox to me brings the whole car together. After a few hundred miles, I'd started to understand how the gearbox works better and connect with it. I'm mechanically minded and have always been very mechanically sympathetic so always thinking about the way it works I feel helps with the way it operates.
The way it changes gear in MCShift mode under full throttle is absolutely incredible. It's just brilliant! The downchanges in Sport mode are awesome!
Speaking of which, the fact it's quiet as a mouse (almost) in normal mode and then at the touch of a button it sounds like it has a sports exhaust is brilliant.
Downsides? Nothing really. Stereo (Bose) is great, even if the infotainment is backwards!
Very much looking forward to many adventures ahead. If you are thinking of getting one, do it. It's way better than I expected (and I expected a lot!!)
