A couple of questions - new car related

Hi - with only 44 days until the car arrives in Oz (she is hopefully sitting at Southampton docks right now) I have a couple of questions that I'm hoping someone can answer.

- Sat Nav: Can I purchase Australian map CD's to use as I assume the car will only have UK ones (it's a 4200 Spyder on it's way from the UK for those who missed my newbie thread). Are there any issues getting hold of them or is it just a matter of contacting a main dealer (or ebay)?

- Air Con: I believe the air con has been de-gassed for shipping/import. The compliance agents said it would cost around $250 to be re-gassed. Does this sound about right price wise, and can anyone recommend someone who can do it (in the Melbourne area)?

- Petrol - with Australia having a low (compared to the UK) 91 RON option, then a 95 and 97/8 option which one do owners/maserati recommend. I assume the highest but thought I would ask

I think that's it for now......although I have a feeling it won't be long until I am asking about exhausts and FD DBW modifications after reading some threads on here :)

-No maps available for OZ, we have tried several options (inc.Ferrari CDs) but to no avail. (Some posting on MMG forum, do search)

Yes must de gas. Price wise not far off the mark and let them (compliance guys) handle it -

Petrol - with Australia having a low (compared to the UK) 91 RON option, then a 95 and 97/8 option which one do owners/maserati recommend. I assume the highest but thought I would ask

Always use 98 oct. and BP

Thanks for the quick response. That's a shame about the sat nav but I guess I'll just use the Tom Tom if needed. I would have been annoyed if I had bought an Australian delivered car and the sat nav hadn't worked here though. I'll check with the compliance guys but the way they talked about it it sounded like they didn't do it themselves. It will arrive in time for Winter so air con won't be high on my list anyway :)

Hi Rich,

Any good aircon service company will regas for you and I would suggest that you do it ASAP as you will need the aircon to demist the windscreen in a Melbourne winter.

PS, those 44 days from Southampton are really long......when my friends asked where my car was I would just say "so far I have transferred a large amount of money to a man I have never met (Dicky Grace) to pay for a car I have never seen and I believe it is on a ship headed toward Australia!) and eventually it did arrive.

Good Luck and patience

Adam, I agree with the 98, but why BP? Is there something you know that I don't?

Richard,

Only that threads on various OZ forums support BP, then Caltex. Why, supposedly fresher fuel/local refining/ etc but who knows

Rich I didn't have to pay anything extra. Just the compliance fee which I mentioned by email.
I have however found that my brake fluid had not been changed which I thought was supposed to at compliance. Haven't looked into it though to be honest so it might pay to ask the question.

Thanks for the info George - that's interesting - I'll try and get them to throw it in then.

George my understanding of the compliance rules ( and it's only my understanding) was that all fluids in the car had to be replaced however I have been subsequently told that no one changes the diff or gearbox oil so I am left not knowing what's a good idea versus what's compulsory. I might see if I can find the rules as I also understood the secondary cats had to be replaced but mine look like the originals all cleaned and polished as I doubt there is anyone who makes a set that look identical to the originals.
