Shame as member Jluis on here supplied some for a fraction of that price recently! Check on EBay mate.

There are numerous companies that can refurbish a Bosch ABS unit. The largest is probably BBA Reman http://www.bba-reman.com/uk/index.aspx

You need to get it out of the car, book it in and then they will collect it and turn it around in a small number of days.

The issues are almost always poor solders and can almost always be repaired, especially those from a large manufacturer like Bosch.

Hope that helps.

Oh, a quick Google of the part number which is likely to be 0 273 004 349 finds guys like this http://www.cheapabs.com/vrmaserati.html

I've used BBA Reman several times and actually very recently for my brother-in-law's Jaguar X-Type Bosch ABS. I also used them for the ABS on a Volvo s80 and for the control ECU on our old Volvo XC90.

The only refurb those guys make is to solder broken wires internaly.
For some reason, our masers fail in a different way.

However, for what they charge, it's worth a shot.

These units cannot be refurbed by specialists. Bosch can rework but you may as well just get a cheap new unit on the link I posted.

Why can they not be refurbed? In what way are they fundamentally different from any other Bosch abs unit?

I do have a new ABS unit from the US distributor (listed on ebay in the thread above). By the time I had paid importing duties it was more than £1,000. It arrived with me about 6 weeks ago. Eurospares now only have the ABS ECU and the pump as a complete unit for north of £1600, once you pay VAT. It's a long story but I know as I bought one of these as well!!! and had the complete unit fitted - hence I have a brand new ABS ECU available here in the UK.

I intend to keep the new ECU unless there is a member of the forum out there who runs out of the other options mentioned above (most of which I tried) and is prepared to pay £1000 for it.

But what fails is the hardware and that is the same across the range (or at least apparently)

It might be that it's location very close to a normal very hot engine plus the water infiltration from the air vent are contributing factors.

I've sent my defective unit off to 2 different companies and both couldn't fix it. Bosch HU do a rework apparently.

I have had a neat solution made by an aluminium specialist for the potential issue of water being one of the causes of failure. It is an aluminium "hood" that fits over the ECU and the pump. I will post some pictures tomorrow. If there is interest more can be made in batches of 10 for £30 each. In my mind a small amount to pay for the piece of mind in knowing at least one potential failure point is removed.

From forum member Galps.

"I went on to this web site https://boschelectronicservice.eu , found that the Bosch 5.3 was listed but not for the 3200 so I emailed them I was dealt with by timea.zsamboki@hu.bosch.com she was vey helpful, she required the Bosch number printed on the underside of the ECU which is 182636 0 273 004 349
I was offered:
- you can buy a new unit. It costs 679€ + 18,4€ delivery cost + VAT. The delivery term is 1-2 working days after we receive the money. In this case, if you will get the new unit, you have to send back the faulty to us.

- you can repair it. It costs 197,1€ + 36,8€ delivery cost + VAT. The repair term is 1 week after we receive the money
I went for the rework option, basically they email you a UPS returns label for you to send it off. Takes 3 weeks in all. As I said fitted it today and everything is fine and dandy just hope it stays that way fingers crossed."
