Alfa Romeo 166 3.2 V6 Lusso

Super rare Alfa 166 3.2 V6 Lusso with manual gearbox. 85,000 miles. Just one previous owner. First owner was the 17th Earl of Dalhousie and the Royal Steward to Queen Elizabeth (must be worth an extra 50 quid) Brechin Castle showing on the logbook.

Full black leather interior and drives pretty good. Needs some minor tlc to make mint. Stainless steel exhaust and good service history. £4000 must be worth this even to keep a GTA on the road.

All the 3.2 166s were manual, auto was only available on the 3.0 facelift. Rare thing in deed

That’s because you’re used to modern stuff that’s huge. They’re the same size as an e39 5 series.

Seen this in Scotland not far from me. Looks like a bargain you got. Well done getting your old car back.

I assume the only reason there were £5k QPVs is that they could easily require £5-10k to bring up to std with subframe corrosion, clutches, variators, suspension, brakes etc, all adding up to high risk. Do these alfas have the same challenges?

True, but a 3.2 166 is a LOT more rare than a QP, in the uk it is anyway, not sure about Europe.

They were both useable needing minor tlc one was gold and the other a green one.

I’d buy up all those cheap ones over there if I were you!
I believe a 3.2 busso engine alone is work 2-3k, the ecu about 1k, then you’ve got the gearbox, xenon lights etc etc.

I hope this one doesn’t get broken up, that would be a shame if it’s a solid, serviceable car. They really are very nice, I had one.

It’s been a while since I had mine, but I guess the potential issues are the usual stuff, parts availability with some items NLA, checking for corrosion underneath etc.
But the 166 was a solid car, seemed better built to me than the 147/156, nice solid door ‘thunk’ etc. Nice soft trim everywhere inside, even low down trim parts, felt a step up build wise than the smaller Alfa’s of that era.

I think they only registered about 40 3.2 166’s in the uk in total. On that basis I think its potentially more worth saving than a GTA. Seems mad to break up a considerable more rare car to save one that is still rare, but positively corrola like in comparison, with about 300 147GTA’s and maybe 250 156GTA’s (in the uk).

Based on my 147 GTA experiences, add expect the 166 V6 would cost about half the price of a QPV to run, not including fuel/insurance.
TS I’d expect it to be a third.

I sold it as a cat d and it got repaired. Whoever did the painting… it’s bad, so bad. I genuinely think I could do better, and I’ve never held a paint gun. Makes me think what went through their mind after they’d finished - ‘yes, that looks good’.
