Thanks for the replies so far.

So to sum up, facelift (bigger grille 2005 on?) is the one to plump for?

What about own servicing? Is it a big no no when it comes to selling?

The way prices are I don't think home servicing is going to make much difference. Maybe save the money and sell it cheap if you ever wanted to move it on.

There was a nice facelift I sold a while back to a nice chap that was one here. It was up fro sale but not sure if it sold. Would have been cheap as well it seemed.

Tbh I would do the oil change and brake fluid change yourself if it's at all possible.
Not sure if your aware but the early cars 2001/2002/early2003) came with a plastic rear window and had an aerial sticking up at the back, late 2003 onwards had the glass rear window and no aerial and less scuttle shake(so the word is). On all models it's worth making sure that you don't buy a car with a leaking heater matrix, time consuming meaning expensive to fix even though the actual part is cheap. Check consumables like discs and pads which are not cheap.
I wanted a manual car which I got, it's been great.

I echo what is said re DIY services; what you save in the short term you will loose when it comes to sell.

The cars are already a challange to sell at the top end, if you add in DIY and poverty maintenance along with a down turn in petrol powered cars...well you get my point.

I dont want to sound like I'm bias but I reckon the Spyder will be more desirable than a lot of the current Maserati range in time due to it's limited numbers, good looks and being not overly big.
Time will tell if I have to eat my words of course.

Alfa Spiders always do well as they have a big following and limited supply so you might well be right
