As Navcorr mentioned it's all about market awareness and at the risk of blowing my own trumpet I do have knowledge of various marques. Hope I haven't been overly rude with my comments Ghostrider, just expressing my opinion and I'm happy to be proven wrong if you do get 29k plus and any more than a few hundred pounds for the plate

Lol though proving you wrong has in the last minute become part of my bucket list and an absolute must... I think we will agree to disagree... I respect your comments and your understanding as with anything we are limited by our exposure to things. So we cannot know that which we do not know.

I have another Maserati Ghibli being offered to me slightly damaged so I might take advantage and buy that and retain my plate.. it might not be worth much more then £250 to anyone else but golly does it attract a lot of attention for £250 and I doubt il find anything else for £250 that comes anywhere close To doing so..

Meanwhile happy driving and thank you for contributing to this protracted dialogue ... it was erm.... well...let’s just say... it was

No one wants a damaged diesel auto much these days, no matter how well specced or what badge is stuck on the front...

Ha... what a cutting riposte... if it was based on anything other then pure conjecture or even a slight understanding off the used car market I would be torn down by it... but as it’s not... I refer to my earlier comment of .. Ha

I think ghost rider should be a special envoy for the UN in brokering peace in the Middle East. Very calm under attack and doesn’t resort to insults.

I think you are much better off putting it on eBay or autotrader- and come back and tell everyone what you got for it. Everyone on here wants a car below market price. As everyone does in an ideal world...
Phil is right, the market is v bad at the moment. Hopefully someone will spot the spec that they want and offer a few more k’s. With it being a cat d, diesel and not repaired- I think the market for people wanting to pay 25+ will be small. At that price it would make a lovely daily driver for someone.

Hi Ian,

I think it got lost in translation, the car is as per the pics I put up, I have repaired it, however the three things I mentioned are those that I didn’t get round to due to getting an assignment. So the dash needs attention, the front wing could do with clipping in properly and the tracking needs to be done... in fairness I could do all these things it’s about two days work. I’m just being lazy, as a contractor I’m in work at the moment and so can’t be arsed, my contract ends for Xmas and if I don’t bother advertising I might just sort it all out my self.

Lol I can get the tracking done for £30 in the Midlands, and the wing for another £50. The dash is the only thing thing that would probably cost about £1k to sort out if I put a brand new one in or £500 if I sort the original out.

In anycase, as you can see from the pics of the car, aesthetically you couldn’t tell unless I specifically told you and I did so in the interest of being open and honest.

Lol this isn’t a damaged cat d car awaiting repair. This is a repaired car with a few minor things that I mentioned that if you wanted it to be pristine would require attention as I hadn’t got no round to them.

Hope that clarifies what was previously unsaid

Hi Jon,

A Range Rover decide to park it’s bottom on the passenger side front end, it damaged the wing, bumper, bonnet and passenger light and some plastic bits attached to those parts, and triggered off the passenger airbag.

As you may know the old cat D is the new cat N. So no structural damage just cosmetic stuff, most of which has been attended to as you can see from the pics

Oops - some Range Rover drivers are d**ks! But not all...

My two cents on maximising the value for your car and the number plate (if that’s what you want to do) would be to spend the 4K to get it looking pristine and immaculate, and then advertise it on Pistonheads, AutoTrader and eBay in the mid 30s. This gives you the option of accepting an offer at around 32-33k, and the possibility of someone falling in love with the high spec and giving you the asking price.

If you look at copart, British auctions, eBay etc... people seem to be bidding less on straight cars and more on damaged ones. Possibly because they believe they can add value and make a profit...maybe

In anycase I will pursue one of two options... do as you say and correct the minor details, I don’t need to spend 4K, rather 1.5k, as the 4K was for if you wanted every single mark, dink, nook and cranny gone. It looks pretty tidy as it is just needs the dash sorting really and the tracking done.

Alternatively I will put it up as a car needing a little attention for 26k on auction bidding on eBay and let the bids do what they can. Either someone gets a bargain, or I get a fair price or I make a profit ... it will be in the lap of the gods.

Ghost rider - I myself think that £30-32k for a repaired and pristine cat D is overly optimistic. The down side for a potential buyer is just too big. Look at the shape of a depreciation curve on a non cat diesel Maserati regardless of option. Adding extra risk and resale headache just makes it even more difficult - especially given than diesel cars will be radioactive material from 2020 due to regulations.
The next owner will be lucky if the car is worth £20k in 3yrs... given the cash outlay and the depreciation- most people will go PCP or Lease to avoid the £30+k out of pocket. Hence your fishing is a very very small pool - rather a puddle.

That being said, you generated as much as attraction as possible with your thread and all you positive attitude in handling a tough crowd (myself included :). I’d suggest you prove all the naggers wrong and come back to tell us how much you got for the car. If as positive as you think - It will cheer up a lot of depressed owners trying to sell their cars :)

Get it on Ebay mate and start it at 99p with a reserve you are comfortable with but also be very realistic.
