From automotoportal.com......

Jay Kay’s Maserati wins Salon Privé Concours d’Elégance

Maserati stole the show at last week’s Salon Privé, the luxury super car show held for the second year at the exclusive Hurlingham Club in London. Among the modern supercars, the new Maserati GranTurismo, displayed alongside two Maserati Quattroportes, created a lot of excitement, while Jay Kay’s stunning Black Maserati A6 G54 won the overall Grand Prix in the Concours d’Elégance, as well as the prize for best GT.

Speaking after the awards, Jay Kay said “I don’t feel like I deserve this. I didn’t make it, Pietro Frua designed it and Maserati made it – I just drive the pretty girl!”

He was awarded his prizes by Concours Head Judge and renowned racing driver, Alain de Cadenet and supermodel Jodie Kidd.

Over £70,000 was pledged during the course of the event to the nominated charities, Tommy’s, Dreamchasing, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Cancer Research UK.

Organisers Andrew and David Bagley commented, “We were delighted with many aspects of Salon Privé this year, however not wanting to rest on our laurels, next year will see a wider variety of super and luxury cars, a much bigger Concours d’Elégance, a fuller display of top-end luxury brands, not to mention the very finest in super yachts and motor yachts. If this year’s guests thought Salon Privé was a truly unique experience, all we can say is, wait until next year. Our charity aims are to raise over £100,000 for the supported charities next year.”

Sorta answers my Q....

Jay Kay

Jay’s encyclopaedic knowledge of vehicles, and his passion for the same, leads to a hand picked car collection that reads like the dream garage of any car nut.

Selected Gems include :

Aston Martin DB5
Original Mercedes Benz 300SL Roadster
BMW 1602 (his first car)
BMW 2002 Turbo
Mercedes Benz G Wagon G500
Fiat Arbarth 1000
Lamborghini Miura SV
Ferrari Enzo
Ferrari 550 Maranello
Maserati A6G
Audi RS6 Avant
Rolls Royce Phantom VII
Bentley S1 Continental Drop Head Coupe

And JK isn’t afraid to use them either. He famously clocked up over 5000 miles in his Enzo(a car sold only to those Ferrari believed worthy) within 3 months of ownership.

JK can spot a car from a single detail and in that instant, describe all it’s features, specifications and history.

He enters tarmac events, does long distance driving trips for the fun of it, and is always seen at the Goodwood speed festival where he arrives early and leaves as late as they’ll let him.

Some believe Jay Kay missed his calling and should have been in an auto related field of some kind, and there’s plenty of evidence to support this notion. We just wish there were more celebs like him out there with the kind of car passion he displays. Which is why he tops our list.

Jay Kays thoughts on the QP when he drove it in Germany......

Jamiroquai: Song of praise for the Maserati Quattroporte

While his studio is in reconstruction, Jay Kay, singer and bandleader of Jamiroquai takes some time off and follows his passion: Cars. Fast cars. The Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT belongs to it, which he chose for a ride. “I don’t know what it is” he says while starting the machine, grinning when the sonorous machine sound of the V8 appears. “But Italian sports cars are enormous inviting for me. When you sit in it and look around you think, life can not be so bad. To drive a Maserati cheers me up. It helps to fell better, if you have a bad day.”

Jay takes the advantage to drive the Maserati while his studio is under construction. When it is finished he wants to write there new texts and record some songs.

“This Maserati is really fantastic” he raved about it during a coffee break. “A gentleman car with a first class horse under the bonnet, which only waits to come out. The Quattroporte is an extraordinary stylish car , for me more beautiful and exclusive than a Bentley Continental GT or an Aston Martin. If you as a businessman look for a car with style and history, then you can’t go wrong with a Maserati Quattroporte”, he said, leaves his coffee alone and takes off.

Why his enthusiasm for the Maserati is so extreme and not for the home made UK cars, will stay Jay Kay’s secret.
