Hi all,
I was introduced to this forum by Conearo , when he asked if he could use an article I'd posted on a rival forum concerning handbrake adjustment. I say rival forum but this reminds me of the time concerns were raised by “The Jaguar Drivers Club†I think it was in the late 70's or early 80's when a rival club opened called “The Jaguar Enthusiasts Club†opened and they saw it as the beginning of the end. But the new club were more interested in helping the common enthusiasts keep their cars on the road rather than spending their time telling the world how good their marque was and how privileged they were as owners. Well both clubs still exist and thrive and you will probably find most members belong to both clubs and love them for their own idiosyncrasies. I'm sure this will be the case here. Having looked around I quite like it here, lots more weirdo's where I can fit in with ease.
I have been a 4200cc owner for almost a year now and still get that thrill when I drive it. Having longed for a return to Italian ownership, since my days driving Alfa Alfettas and GTV's in the seventies and eighties. Perhaps giving my age away there! I'm sure the Italians are the cause of my grey hair. Anyway I'm one of those unfortunate souls who love driving something different but can't really afford it. The only way round this is to carry out my own maintenance and repairs, therefore not having to pay astronomical labour costs that are associated with all dealers not just Maserati. Usually at least two thirds of garage costs are down to labour alone and while it might take me a lot longer in my garage I actually enjoy it immensely. Alas some of us were put here to do real work for a living so we have to make the best of what we have.
One thing I like about this type of forum is people are willing to freely ask, and tell, without fear of being called a fool. Everyone is more than willing to help fellow addicts and sufferers. The reports and technical fixes section is an inspired idea, no more searching through hundreds of threads looking for someone with the same problem and hoping they tell you how they sorted it, without those horrible words “ I took it back to the Dealers†and gave them wads of cash.
Conearo has been great in putting up a couple of my contributions for me, but I'm going to have a go myself, if I can just get my head round the computer bits. If not I'll have to bother him again. I was driving the other night and noticed half of my dash was in darkness so decided to strip out the instrument cluster so I could re-lamp it. Now I'm in the habit, I keep an old digital camera (do you remember the ones with a floppy disc in?) so I can record the events for others, because as we all know, a picture paints a thousand words. So if you need to be behind your dash for any reason keep your eyes peeled, I hope to have it up very soon, the posting that is.
Keep up the good work.
One request. Living too far north to attend Ace meetings and being very jealous of you lot, next time you get to visit a posh dealers how about some pics for us foreigners north of the Watford gap. I'd love to drool over a shot of a shiny workshop. Like I said Weirdo's.

Keith, welcome to the Official Maserati weirdo's sanctuary......:)

I can't guarantee all your troubles and problems will be solved, but with the experience and talent on this board we will do our very best!

Good to see you've already gotten some useful stuff to put up on the fixes section!

Do enjoy the crack, banter and bonhommie of this wonderful board!

Hi all,
Conearo has been great in putting up a couple of my contributions for me, but I’m going to have a go myself, if I can just get my head round the computer bits. If not I’ll have to bother him again. Now I’m in the habit, I keep an old digital camera (do you remember the ones with a floppy disc in?) so I can record the events for others, because as we all know, a picture paints a thousand words. So if you need to be behind your dash for any reason keep your eyes peeled, I hope to have it up very soon, the posting that is.

Keith, the only hard bit is the images, uploading from your pc to this website. I have created a guide that you would do well to give the once over.

Uploading pics from your PC for use in your post:

Linking web pics for use in your post:

Linking video for use in your post:

You, like me are a 'hands on' sort of chap and a dab hand with documenting it, keep up all the good work.....and welcome, of course.

Great to have you on board jagpurr and good to see another DIYer. I have alwys done my own servicing, rebuilds etc and I will be doing my cambelt and checking valve timing and clearances soon. Perhaps I should do a How to for that but I reckon its just a follow the manual, straight forward job. Anyhow keep up the good work

Hi Jezza

The way I see it is that the DIY postings arn't really for the competent folk like us who know what they are doing and can follow a technical manual. They are for the new starter who needs a little bit of encourigment to have a go. Get them to do a small job with some confidence and you never know they may end up enjoying the experience and buying a proper manual and moving on to bigger things. We all had to start somewhere so go for it and pass some of your expert knowledge on to the next generation. It's quite a good feeling!
Kind Regards
