Any DVLA experts out there?

So I have a Discovery 3 which is long term off the road whilst I get together a very detailed case against Land Rover which will probably end up in court. (See sig line)

The license plate on it is my wife's although both old vehicle and plate are in my name.

She'd like it on her other vehicle but the Disco is now declared SORN - to say DVLA are bl**dy unhelpful about the process would be an understatement and I resent hanging on to a £10 a minute premium rate line for the privilege.

Anyone got any idea how I get round this seeming chronic circular situation.

:frusty5:

[sorry, I know this is a Maserati forum not a DVLA forum, but you are the most helpful guys I know:blushed:]

I *think* the new disc-free process allows monthly payments. I assume that also means you can tax for a month at a time... but I may be wrong.

It only needs to be MOTd as far I know. If you want to change the plate ownership you can put it on retention with another person (you assumingly) as nominee. You can then transfer the number to any motd vehicle in her or your name.

^ Agree, must be only MOTd , I think this is the only stipulation. It's written as "must be road worthy", though there used to be some stipulation that the vehicle could be asked to be brought to local office, as most of these are now closed this shouldn't be an issue.

Yup, backing up the guys above, just needs MOTed, plus as noted can tax cars month by month if needs be, so much handier doing it from home!

Fill us in on what happened the Disco, why suing JLR, too much for a small claims court limit?

Looks like I am in a Catch 22 with the reg. I can't get an MOT when it's off the road. What happens if the MOT runs out on a car between a write off accident and insurers paying out? The reg is lost, I suppose

Parisien, there's some comment elsewhere on the forum but well documented fatigue failure of the cam belt tensioner which sheared off the engine block with catastrophic results. I've had the part analysed at one of the best metallurgists in the world (in Canada) that I work with in my day job. They report it is without doubt a manufacturing defect that LR are aware of. LR Customer Relations are stonewalling me at the moment but unless I get full settlement they will get everything I can throw at them. And I won't go quietly. I know a lot of top notch lawyers.

Just had fantastic news today (which I've just received in writing) - Land Rover Customer Service have just instructed the dealership to repair the vehicle and have agreed to pick up 100% (£8,000+) of the cost. I had a few glasses of champagne at lunchtime - glad they decided to go quietly.

Happy days!!

(Maybe they read this forum!)

Great news, Jon. Maybe your metallurgist contacts could also help with the 3200/4200/GranSport lower arm issue? A big case is building given the number of failed parts being found.

If someone is coordinating that piece of work send me a PM and I will gladly pass on the details. I paid about C$1,000 (£600) but secured an £8,000+ result. If a lot of you have the same issue the shared cost could be well worth the investment. I haven't spotted a thread for this lower arm issue but if Admin want to move this comment, feel free.
