Put a new Exide battery in the GS in july last year, in the last few weeks it has started going flat, had to jump start the car on Sunday, drove for two + hours each way to the British motor show, Last night was down to 10.5 v Had to take it off the car as wouldn't charge on it, been on charge all night, still not fully charged, The only thing that is different is new radio, can't see how that could cause a drain. Not sure how I can test if it is Fooked.

Sounds fooked, did you keep the reciept?

Check the output of the alternator first with a Voltmeter. It should be anything higher than 13V. Note that you may have to disconnect the battery to measure it accurately.

Just replaced my Exide battery with a Bosch from ebay, best price I found. £85 delivered next day. Though it was older than a year. Has better performance also

Do you keep it on a trickle charger throughput the year when you are not driving it? If not, if it has lost charge over a number of times, it can get to a point of no-return and not recharge and hold the charge. Despite what anyone might say, I have the Porsche and the GS on a CTEK trickle charger permanently when not being driven. I have never cooked the battery, caused it to be f&ck*d, never blown the electrics, never caused any overheating of anything. I know a lot of Porsche guys who have their Porsche cars in storage for years permanently on trickle charger with no ill-effects whatsoever, and they start first turn of the key every time after months and years of being on charge.

Not kept on trickle charger, as could leave car for weeks and would start fine, battery disconnected during winter when off the road, and all would be fine come spring, will see if Tayna's warranty is worth the paper its written on.

I went through a similar experience with my QP and replacing the Exide in that, and credit to Tayna they were accommodating and helpful... see here for more info: https://www.sportsmaserati.com/index.php?threads/battery-warranty-claim-good-idea.33883/

I've had my GS for less than a month, but I'm told by the previous owner that it would be driven say once a week and would only ever be on a trickle charger if being left stood during long periods/winter etc... the Bosch battery inside that is 4/5 years old!

I do the same. Across multiple bikes & a 4200; for many years now...with no side effects whatsoever so far....

I did the same with my 2009 QP. Never had a battery problem after that.

Just collected and fitted a Bosch S4 from Eurocarparts, Old battery actually showed as fully charged just before I left, disconnected the charger and on return about 40 mins, already dropped to 12.0v will see what it drops over next few days. Told chap in Eurocarparts about Taynas criteria for 'healthy' battery, and he laughed and said if he tested and it showed less than 11. 5 v I would be getting a new one, so although more expensive than Tayna, as has been said, the hassle of returning things to an online seller make it less than attractive.

It sounds like it has high internal resistance and has high self discharge. It may be caused by deep cycling. Did it ever go fully flat and then get recharged? If not you might have got a battery that had not been treated well before you got it, is there a big gap between the manufacturing date and when you fitted it?

Now down to 11 volts, Think it might be worth sending back to Tayna?

Probably worth talking to them first, explain that it was fine and then seems to have developed high internal resistance. They will say it has been deep cycled, but if you have other evidence, like a big gap between the manufacturing date and when you bought it, you will probably be able to push for a replacement.

about to return a dead battery that's 4 years and 9 months in to its 5 year warranty, euro car parts, if you don't hear from me for a while I'm probably at her majesty's pleasure, all the best

almost got lucky, they tested it eventually agreed to replace it, handed over receipt and only 4 year warranty, don't know why i thought Exide Premiums had 5 year warranties, other than their website does say 5 years but only if bought on line, bought it originally in branch and only 4 years, work that one out if you can
