Sad to relate, Bernard Cribbins has just died aged 93. I was watching Two Way Stretch and Wrong Arm Of The Law last week, what a trooper he was, part of growing up in the '60s, '70s and '80s.... I have a vivid memory of my Mum singing along to 'Hole In The Ground' as she was doing the washing up sometime in 1970....

My kids are sick of me singing this today

Hole in the ground
along with Right Said Fred (not the bald blokes from the 90s)

I only realized in the last few years that he was in that Doctor Who film from the 60s. He was a regular on our TV screens at home when my daughter was a little younger:

I loved hole in the ground when I was a kid.
“ All big and sort of round it was. It’s not there now, the grounds all flat. “.
Perhaps that will be on his headstone?

Being nearly 60 he was certainly part of my growing up.
Part of getting older ourselves is that we now see all these legends going.
Circle of life I guess.

One line he had that stuck with me because it really made me laugh when I was a child

Ooo a worm

See a worm and pick it up all day long you'll have a worm .

Written down it doesn't sound funny , like all comedy it's the delivery , a talent Bernard had in buckets
