Best sound quality headunits...help?

Hi all,

Can anyone suggest a good quality replacement headunit for my 3200?
I'm out of touch these days so would appreciate any suggestions for the best sounding brands/models available today.
I have had Alpine units in the past which I found good but its been a few years since I last looked at the market. I don't have a budget, basically if its worth it I will buy it. Sound is the priority, as long as it takes a CD I'm not bothered about extra functions.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I've not had a working stereo for over 2yrs and not been bothered, its just starting to bug me that something isn't working on the car. Oh-o, I may have just cursed myself with that statement....ha

I fitted the below to my GS

Sound is good but is let down now by the cr#p speakers. I don't listen to it often as
Prefer the exhaust note, but nice on long journeys for some tunes.

Has CD and I Pod input and the bonus of built in hands free for my phone too.

Got Alpine headunits in all my vehicles. Seem to offer good value and have a good spec. Would recommend them.

Becker GrandPrix if you can find one, soooo much better than the standard fit and look right.

Upgraded speakers to Alpines, I am really happy with it, see my Alpine Speaker upgrade thread here:

Oh, and dont bother with the rear shelf speakers, unplug them, it makes the sound much much better, believe me. Make sure you use the Dynamat too makes a world of difference.

Thanks to all for your, as always, swift and sound advice.

I like the sound of the Becker/Alpine set up, both brands I know so would expect good things from that. Always good to hear of a tried and tested set up. Thanks for the link too, I will definitely make use of that.

If unlucky with the Becker I'll look into the Pioneer and Alpine heads as they look good options. I will arrange a demo of these before committing to anything. Well designed too compared to some I've seen, I don't want anything that lights up like a christmas tree!

I have to agree with Matt I replaced the standard Becker with a Grand Prix in my 3200 scrapped the auditorium 200 speaker for infinity Kappa's and the result was almost as good as the Premium system in my wife's XC90 and that was outstanding!
