Owned my car now for almost 3 years and still recall the time I joined the first forum with my first post as a 'newbie'.

Had plenty of advice re my first Maser' and settled for the best I could afford...and she has been great. I put her to bed for the winter tonight and had a 'emotional' moment thinking about how good its been...but also knowing that although she is worth far more to me, she is now worth no more that a new Focus!

Then it struck me...What value the coupe is, esp the early 4200's.

  • Reliable, far better that the old bi-turbos, Ghibli, and dare I say it the 3200.
  • parts are plentyful and appear to be stronger that the pre 2000 cars
  • lots of choice
  • more powerful than a bi-turbo, 3200, even the GT, and almost as quick as a Gransport
  • And from just about £13k
Ok it may not have 'bomerangs' or 'Surf-boards' but pound for pound I think for your first Maserati the 4200 is a great choice and for a £15-20 k to upgrade, I may as well stick with it than spend that much for a spoiler or two on the GS

Agree with all that Peter...never a better time to get into the most glorious of marques.

Pound for pound one of the best value super cars ever.

A history and heritage as good as anything else out there.

A motoring story as twisted and breathtaking as anyones imagination could cope with!

The 80s' and 90s appear to have been a very, very bleak period, when for all intentional purposes Maserati should have been consigned to the automotive bin.

Its rebirth and belief of those involved and risks taken were the stuff of automotive legend.

Finally they produce the modern day ground breaker..............then its immediate up-grade the 4200..then refined further into the GS.

Each car a significant and purposeful step forward.

A great car, great value, hugely rewarding and thrilling.......and most of all....a bunch of great guys and enthusiasts to keep it all going......respect!

LONG LIVE SPORTSMASERATI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well said Frank, cold weather arrived today, car all tucked up in the garage after a good clean at the weekend won't use it much now until after the salt has gone from the roads. Hopefully there will be a few nice crisp mornings before the bad weather arrives. Already planning next years events to go to. Best 4 months car ownership I have ever had in 20 years of driving, why did I wait so long?

Agree Peter and even dealer facelift 4200s are below £20k now, there is a decent on listed on the other forum at present. MP Supercars said that by then big steps forward had been made in reliability.

the 4200 is a far better car than the 3200....
making it the best 1st maserati to buy....

i do want to say the 3200 is prettier however and
in AC guise its more desirable but could be problematic....

Peter I would have to agree with you ... I know I was singing the praises of the 3200 in another thread but the 4200 is a safer bet as a first Maserati ... Better reliablility and a smoother engine .. Great value car at the moment.
