i think it is just so funny, that lad getting married at 17, he looked as though he couldn't give a *****, the best was that castle cake, it weighed over 60kg, more of a monument than cake. What i thought was funny is when the wedding was finished and the bride and groom came out of the church, you see all the Transit vans outside.

We both watch this religiously. Though there is much that I don't agree with, it's a great program presented in just the right spirit and my overriding feeling is that it is helping the traveling fraternity explain their ways and customs, both good and bad, in the hope that us 'country' folk might treat them with a little more respect. I hope so.

easy Dem, they just do work likr tarmacing drive ways and double glazing and various other home improvement work. They are just paid cash for their work and they pay cash for everything they buy, they probably dont have a bank account.

Though not without exception, many don't have mortgages, and being tight knit family units, child care costs are not an issue. Just these two things in themselves will make them cash rich. Downside is that, as in last weeks episode, they can get turfed out at 'a moments' notice. Whether you agree with it or not, it's very interesting to watch.

yes right, they dont have mortgages, thats a saving of about 1k a month roughly and child care is free, they surely have not got bank accounts as they have no permanent address no??

was going to say if they have bank accounts ill live like them, ill take loans out then when they come looking for me ill be in the park next door.....

Another classic last night! It's a very interesting programme. The males all seem pretty much as we all thought, but the women are surprisingly moralistic. No sex before marriage, not aloud to drink and very clean (housework) but a little repressed really.

Miles, you forgot to mention that they dont pay tax, dont pay social security , dont have any council tax, but still send their kids to school, even if just for a short time. use doctors and hospitals, water suppiers, waste systems in fact all the public uttilities that we all have to pay for, they get for free. there vans may be spotless but the mess they leave behind them is disgraceful.
generally the men earn money from building trades, but not in mainstream contracting, so health & safety is not a consideration nor is VAT, scrap metal, gambling, drugs & stolen goods.
Great people......lets just be glad that they keep themselfs as a seperate section to the rest of us.

council here was going to give them permission to move into the park opp my house, neighbours went mad (some houses here are expensive) as the house prices were going to take a dive and they quickly rejected the move, i cant say im disappointed....

Always a tough one guys.................why should they conform to something they don't wish to be?

10000s of people in the UK contribute far less than this group do......................and they still look down their noses at this group of people..........who else does society witch hunt cos we don't like the cut of their jib...or what they believe in....etc......

If they break the law....put them in front of the courts................if not....live and live.....
