Blast from the past! JP in Dubai! Need a new stereo for the GS!

Hey guys, hope you're all doing well!

It's been a while, but the good news is I still have the GranSport!

I haven't driven her much in the last couple of years, as I bought a daily driver to take over. She's now pushing 70k miles.

Unfortunately, just when I thought my big bills would come to an end, the heater core caused a leak on to the radio which is now fried and unrecoverable according to the workshop. So, on top of the dash out, new heater core (they have some aftermarket solution), I now need to replace my radio head unit. I had given away the OEM becker that came with the car when I sourced the newer GrandPrix bluetooth version. I've just made an offer for one on Ebay for GBP300.

Would you suggest I stick to OEM+ and keep the interior tidy or go aftermarket and enjoy bluetooth streaming? I listen to soundcloud and audible on my other cars.

Hey JP, long time indeed. The heater core is Alfa 166 I believe and you can still get it.

Regarding the radio, I would not pay too much for a used OEM one, its rubbish and like you I upgraded to the same looking Becker GrandPrix but as you have probably found out they are no longer available. I have the iPod/iphone cable plugged into the 6 stack CD slot, its cost like £10 to buy off eBay and works really well. I would get anything Becker and it will look ok in its normal understated manner.

I am sure someone on here will have one they will give you or you can try David Askew/Greg PPC, the trouble is getting the code key card with these used unit.

So good to hear from you Matt! I know, I've been MIA...are you getting a Giulia QF????

I ended up finding a used GREEN display Grand Prix 7993 on Ebay...hallelujah! Paid GBP350...

I'm thinking of ditching the iPod cable (I'm an Android man) and going for one of these A2DP bluetooth streaming audio adapters for our Beckers, in case anyone has experience or preferences, I'm all ears!

I went for the Blaupunkt Stockholm 230. Bluetooth, USB, AUX and DAB (not sure how relevant DAB is in Dubai). It's a nice subtle head unit without being too flashy like you see from Alpine/Sony etc. Full phone functionality too with ext mic.

Great meeting you today! Thanks for reminding me why I've been loyal to my GranSport for the last 7 years and 50,000 miles! You just put some bad ideas in my head (Scuderia gearbox software!!!!)
