you have to be careful with these brake dust products, apparently if used too often they can melt the lacker of the alloy wheel and over time the wheel goes from gradually being silver to going grey. when cleaning the car i stick to washing up liquid, no harm to the wheels and gives off a nice finish.

I seem to recall that washing up liquid (e.g. fairy liquid) is not recommended for cars as it contains some unwelcome materials (salt?); personally I stick to products designed for use on cars. That said I avoid the harsher products, so the acid based wheel cleaners are given a miss.

I dont use Fairy on the bodywork, i use either Turtle Wax wash and wax or Car Plan wash and wax, the worst thing to use for the wheels is Wonder Wheels, well put it this way, i have washed my parents cars for years now and used fairy in the wheels, they have not lost their shine one little bit.

I have that and its not bad. The downside is that it not being harsh, you have to scrub more, but hey, it smells nice so its worth it.

Recently i've been using nothing but a hose and rubber gloves (cue sniggering). No sponge, brush or cloth, just literally rubbing the dirt off with my gloved fingers and washing it away with the water from the hose. Seems to work well, costs nothing and doesn't damage the wheels...
