Brakes shimming

Hi

So loving the motor and getting to know her now, took my son to a party in Accrington at the weekend and its about 25 minute drive as Im pulling up to the house and have the window open to listen to that engine I can hear the noise of the brakes scrubbing the discs as if the brakes are on slightly, I then drove again for a while and tapping brakes to release and it had gone.

When it was in Bowkers they said it looked like it will need new discs but at 16k miles seems to soon, can the brakes get caught on as in electronic brake.?

Thanks

Stewart

Sounds like the brakes need cleaning to get the pistons moving freely. Also, at this time of year I always park the car with the parking brake off otherwise it is liable to bind on as the pads and disks stick together

The EPB does not use the regular brake pads IIRC but has its own pads.

I presume that EPB failure is due to the number of times it is applied; ie number of journeys not length of journey?

If the car is wet when I park up and the it will not be used overnight or longer then I always turn the EPB off as they tend not to like wet discs on most cars.

How do you park without the electronic brake on? I assume it goes into first gear? What happens if I want to park it and have it in reverse? Or do I need to turn the car around!

Press the "park off" button before turning off the ignition. I think it engages reverse gear if you are current in reverse otherwise it'll engage first gear. This is for the MC Shift, don't know about the auto.

Yep thats what Im thinking re e parking brake dragging as I still have the problem with park off light coming on, wondering if a niggle in a sensor somewhere. Its got to go back in for the windows to be done and USB so Ill get it looked at again.

Also EXCF350 when you do this does it still state EPB on, I get the Park off coming on when I do this but when turn engine off it says EPB ON still as I agree whilst wet ideally like it to remain stationary with no brakes on and just in a gear. My porsche was bad for this, discs rusted quickly in the wet and if left the handbrake on would do some nightmare damage to the discs

Press the park off button for a second or two and the display says 'park off'. Turn off engine and it'll display the gear but the handbrake sign will not illuminate. Not sure if it repeats the 'park off'
