Just thought i would do a quick wrecky to see what cover people take out when travelling through Europe on our summer trips/breaks , just been through the AA cover which is what i normally take out , and seeing as im doing a few trips this year have decided to go with their annual multi trip policy with the added parts and labour gaurantee service, total £134 , what else is there that others use

Just for the 5/6 days of one Le mans trip alone it worked out nearly £48 so doing at least 3 trips this year should prove cost effective, spent many years when i was younger doing European trips when i was working in germany , in some right old bangers i might add , and never a single breakdown, ive now got a couple of the most reliable cars ive ever had and now im getting paranoid about breaking down , its the Victor thing i guess:dry:

Loz, good shout. I pay £42 for a 5 day trip and as you know from last year, it was worth its weight in gold, as the GS came back on a trailer, all the way to the dealer to have its collapsed clutch replaced.

Anyway, look like Le Touchet is on this year, so that's now £84, plus I also pay £15 a year via my bank for a uk based breakdown only, plus if its over 30 miles or so, I will get charged, so your idea sounds ideal and will probably follow you.

Have a look online and play RAC, GF and AA off each other, you will be surprised what they are prepared to drop.....but accept they may not all do the warranty thing.

If your on the AA website can you post a link here direct to what you are proposing to get?

Working on this myself at the moment. AA I thought seemed expensive. While looking for my insurance for this year, the insurance companies were offering breakdown cover which I remember A Plan's was £75. Can't remember if that included international cover. I'll check when I get back home.

Loz, went for AA single trip, without the parts and labour, was £34.45. I have 2 trips abroad this year, so that will come to around £70 for the pair, where as the annual was £108.

I have cover from quoteline direct £59 euro cover annual policy. Recommended on moneysavingexpert website. Not had to call them out yet but they seem to be linked in with a well known company for travel incident management so should do what the policy says.

Mind you.....they clearly state if in their mechanics opinion the car has been poorly maintained.....your breakdown insurance is null and void !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plus they tell you to bring proof of servicing with you....WTF!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????????

Mine comes free (RAC) with my bank account - must check if it covers driving abroad. I've used it a few times in the past and have never had any problems, in spite of it being free!
