C-pillar badges

Trying to decide whether to get these or not - I think they look pretty smart and compliment the back end - but am a little worried that some scallywag or drunkard will end up nicking them. Not such a problem in itself, as they're not mega expensive, but I'd be annoyed if in ripping them off the paintwork was damaged...

Has anyone had theirs stolen or have taken them off themselves? Do they leave a mark/damage?

Let me know your opinions - do you think the car looks better understated without them?

Thanks guys

If you're not sure, then don't not do it unless you are sure you won't like it or your mates/random people off the internet will like it.

Fair enough - will order some from eurospares - they're the cheapest right? Better than fleabay at least...

Hi Matt - just been browsing and searching through Eurospares and they're not on the 3200 pages - do you know which page I can find them?

No, thats because they are for the QP and GS, so have a look there. There are 2 types from memory, they have different colour arrows, mine are red which denotes that mine is an LE spec.

They are easy to remove with thin waxed string and no mark should be left. Just in case you don't know, they were not fitted to 3200s and early 4200s as standard.

Good to see you are going for it - I think the car looks much better with them fitted: only reason not to would be if you were a purist and wanted the car as delivered from the factory

Yup, they're ordered - hope I haven't accidentally got the ones with red lines across - don't think I did...

Alfamaserman - In fact doing a search on maserati forum, I saw you'd taken yours off. I do know what you mean about non-standard stuff and I'm not normally one for extraneous badges - but I don't feel it's like putting an M3 badge on your 318i, and they do set the car off nicely IMO. Horses for courses...

I'm sure a friendly hoodie will pocket them within months anyway:burger:

I guess I'm pretty much on my own in terms of preferring the look of the car without C pillar badges!

errrr, wat's wrong with having red lines on them? I spent a very bored night at home doing these!
I know, I should get out more.

Heheh! Nothing wrong with red stripes, especially when they match the ones on the trident at the front!

- slightly bizzarely I'm happy putting on badges that weren't even on my car when it was made, but am against 'upgrading' my 3200 to an LE (despite the fact that 3200s were never made with an LE version - does that even make sense?) I guess I'm trying to say I'm happy to advertise the fact it's a Maser, but wouldn't want people to think it had kit on it that it didn't. Not sure I've explained myself very well there...

I've got them on my 3200 and they finish the car off very well, to me it looks strange when I see a car without them as that recess was made for them.

Remember to put them on the right way round, they are handed and the arrow head should point forward.

Here is a fitting guide, from one of my previous posts:

C pillar badges
If your in the market for some C pillar (near the fuel cap) badges and have had a look on ebay, you'll find they are a very reasonable £40 for the pair....well Eurospares sell the for £7 each, Item 58:

http://www.eurospares.co.uk/partTabl...A=2&B=19432&S=

I found that the best thing to do is position the gas flap side first as you are limited by the flap position.

You only get one go at getting this right, and you need to remove all the traces of wax and dirt from the body to get a proper fix. The best thing to use is Zippo lighter fluid you can get from any newsagents for under a quid. Don't leave it on the paintwork for to long.

If you get some masking tape, create a border to exactly fit the badge into, the same widths both side making sure the arrow points forward.

You also need to get the badge at the correct horizontal level or rotation.

What I did was to place masking tape from the top and bottom of the recess, extending to the tail of the car. The 2 tape lines should cross at a point down towards the end of the rear wing, near the tail lights. This crossing or perspective point, should be used to put a third piece of tape from that crossing back to the arrow level.

This will then ensure both sides are consistent.

I know this is a bit fussy, but this is how I was taught to do it when I was a sign writer, many moons ago.

Hope this helps

That's a fab guide Matt, thanks.

It's photos like this one from the Bristol day thread that make me think the badges belong!:
