What is the use of making this measurement?
the measurement will help decide if you are ****** right now or have a stay of execution. Engines with excess end float can destroy themselves with crank wearing through the block. New engines no longer exist. The cost of work to fix the issue may now exceed value of the car (apparently). During disassembly the halves of crankcase can distort which needs work (line bore?) to fix.
Guess it is only really of use to a new purchaser.
Anyone owning a 3200 might already has the disease even if the symptoms are not yet apparent.

There, I have said it now.

Doomed, Doomed, you are all Doomed.
Is that whoosing noise;
  • natural turbo airflow
  • throttle body fault
  • crank induced detonation
  • driver sucking air through teeth fretting about the next service
  • door glass not quite shut (after last time battery went flat)

Joking aside in the first 12 months of driving I was convinced the police were discreetly following me in my 3200 whenever I was in a 30mph zone. Turned out the difficulty keeping to the limit meant dump valve was gently crooning to me, just like a distant siren (of the seas).
My car no longer has dump valve, it is a mermaid flange.

Sounds a bit fishy
