hi guys as your all a helpful bunch I would like to know what outdoor cover do you use for the Maserati ..... as winter is here I would need something to protect the car when its out I was going to order one direct from Maserati but I am sure that's an expensive idea.

thanks

p.s. looking into the sat nav I have emailed navteq no response and Maserati have it for £300 poundish going to email a few more dealers on a better price. Do you need the discs in the unit or are they uploaded.

General consensus is that its better to let the car get wet and dirty than put a cover on it whilst outside.

The problem is the wind constantly massages the cover against the paintwork and causes swirling but the worst problem is paint sweat. Moisture gets trapped between the cover and the car then the sun bakes it, boiling the water and making islands appear on the paintwork.

Its not worth the risk.

I am sure a member on here will do you a copy of the nav disc.

thanks guys ....I will look into the car covers as I am more worried about bodywork and paint damage. would be interesting to know how you look after yours.
I would probably detail the car for winter and then regularly look after the bodywork

I've only ever used an outdoor cover once, suffered micro blisters! Agree with concensus, better to leave uncovered imho.

What consensus? We’ve had this discussion on covers the forum before and it’s clear that there are two schools of thought and we won’t convince someone who has the opposite view. I vote for them. I have had my QP under a good quality cover for over two years, next to my other car which isn’t covered: the difference in cleanliness and finish is very noticeable and the QP looks show ready. Use common sense: wax the car, wash the car and the cover regularly; only use a proper breathable and washable cover (they cost a lot but are worth it); remove any leaves and obvious dirt etc. before covering. Mine is a CoverCraft (in UK available from Ultimate Finish). No problems with paint, whereas leaf sap and bird droppings can both be a severe problem on paint without a cover in my area.

You are quite right about both sides of the argument. A garage is better but a cover is better than nothing as long as the car is clean and dry before you use the cover. I have used these people before on another car and the top of the range cover was fine:

Same here, it totally knackered the paint on my Opel GT, I will never use one again.

It's not about scoring Matt, just different people have different experiences.

It all depends on the quality of the car cover and how soft/recent the paint is. The leaflets with them are at pains to point out that they should not be used if the paint is under six months old. The one I use is on a convertible so it helps protect the fabric and stops the discs rusting as much. If you use the car at least weekly and don't park under trees then I agree there is no need to use one.

I 2nd Specialised Covers" mines been covered with it for a year now, great cover and the best I've ever had. The others break down under UV this one hasn't at all. Always cover a car, protects it from all the fall out. It's certainly not scratched my paint. Owens did that for me.

thanks for the comments .... I think I will be looking into a good quality car cover

Fortunately I am able to garage mine, but I have an exterior cover that I purchased from a forum member, specialist exterior type with a fluffy inner liner. If it gets really low temeratures, I will cover my car in the garage to keep everything from freezing. I have no concerns about using a very good quality cover, but obviously ensure the car and the cover are bone dry and clean..!!

Get a quality one and never put it on a car which is anything other than spotlessly clean. And take it off often enough to let the car breath, especially in hot weather.
