CEL Code P1420 Canister Purge System

So here's an odd one. CEL comes on with P1420 code under this condition: The fuel tank is filled, and then driven to about 3/8 of a tank. Above that, no CEL, no code comes in.
Just purchased the car from a fellow enthusiast, and he changed out a purge valve. That said, the circumstances above are quite odd - what would the fuel tank level have to do with the alarm coming in?

Suspect things to pursue:
  • still the purge valve just because? But that's an expensive Easter Egg troubleshooting method
  • gas cap? Not sure what level has to do with it, but at least it's a cheap Easter Egg.
  • random vacuum leak? But again, why would this be tank level dependent?
So, posting here for the hive mind, in case someone has had a similar experience and can shed some light on the path most likely to lead to satisfaction.
In the meantime, I'm going to clear the code at 1/4 tank and drive it around a bit to see if it comes in again, or if it only comes in on the transition from full to about 3/8.

Guess I wasn't clear on your fuel level interrelation on the other place post. But my error code was intermittent as well...never saw the fuel level as causal/related but honestly didn't get too far into that before just trying to chase leak(s)...

I know older thread, but I just got this code as well, P1420 on my '03 Spyder 4.2L CC.

Wondering if anyone can share more info of possible solutions, that I can accomplish myself. I try to do as much as possible without dealer intervention. LOL.

Emissions control issue with a purge vale, assumed for charcoal cannister? Have read that there is a surprisingly inexensive Ferrari part available from them?

Thanks!

Could be; could also be the roll-over valve, which is much cheaper as the F car part than a Maser.

After months ... a fellow member on MaseratiLife donated a fuel cap valve/gasket to insert into my gasket-less fuel filler cap. All seemed well, until today, when I finally took the Spyder on a long drive, about 120 miles, and voila, the CEL code P1420 locked back in. Filled the car back up, tightened up the fuel filler cap, and going to give it another go, just in case it was a loose cap.
