It was my first car.....black Lido version......I was 17 at the time and loved the little thing. Miles is very unique as it is a wide body version and has a bigger engine........

I'm working on the Maser Club stand for the opening morning (Friday). I'm looking forward to seeing what we're displaying this year, as the only exhibit I know of so far is a Ghibli Cup.

Hi Ewan, according to the club newsletter and web site, they're hoping for...

An original Ghibli - coupe or spyder, a Biturbo Ghibli - Cup or GT, a 425/430, a Bora, a 4200 Spyder and a Mistral.

I'm looking forward to seeing what they gather together.

Well, I planned the theme for this year (affordable classic Maserati), organised a full set of cars (which included a mint 3200, and it had been agreed that 4200s were not old enough to qualify, seems that's been ignored), plus an evening meal on Saturday for members, and was about to ask for the volunteers to run the stand; I'm aware of what might be there... I'm also aware of some cars that certainly won't be there. The problems arose when I was suddenly told not to interfere with the status quo in the club - essentially it had to be done to suit some other people. So, I dropped it cold, and won't be involving myself again. There are some very nice people in the club, but sadly not all of them.

I think everyone on here knows I play these things with a straight bat, transparent costs, not for profit etc. I only involve myself in similar outfits; Matt's organisation fits the bill perfectly.

If I recall last years stand everything was pre-biturbo, like the centenary display in Modena, ie £££
I guess that's why the membership is only in the 600's (it was for the only year I was a member 4 years ago)

Quite - that's what I was trying to change, and had lined up 8 suitable cars, but now it seems a Bora and Mistral are required. Affordable to most? I think not.

The stand last year had more than one car worth over 500k on it, and some brand new cars (classic show, remember), with cash changing hands to 'allow' them in. Right......

Though to be fair, the Maserati Club stand looked amazing last year with some truely special cars - so much so it won the best stand of the show prize.

Of course, they can't please everyone every time, but they do change it around from year to year. My QP IV was on the stand the year before, as a bi-turbo era example. And there's a Ghibli Cup this time.

We're not far off 4200's entering classic status, so suspect we'll see one on the stand in the very near future.

I have to say I wasn't keen on seeing the two new cars there last year. Nice cars, obviously, just not what I want to see at a classics event. I have mixed feelings about that, but accept that the Club runs on a very small budget, so can understand when/if compromises have to be made. Indeed, without sponsorships the Club would hardly function.

Agreed Ewan - it was a superb stand for the Centenary, and hats off to the organisers for that.

I disagree with the point about sponsorships - it very much depends where the money is spent. The club has a significant income from its members (some £40k, unlike SM); having been made au fait with the finances of the events and other matters, I don't agree with what it's paying for, and for whom, so pulled out.
