I finally collected my GT-S MC Sport Line from Emblem this afternoon. 40 min drive there in the 599, same route back in the GT-S. First conclusions? The GT-S sounds better (even though the 599 has the original fit factory sports exhaust, while the Maser is "standard"), has a more forgiving ride, and a smoother gear change (though I believe the system is the same in both cars). Granted, the 599 has an extra (approx) 150 horses, but on the way back, I can't say that I missed them.
Not sure about the infotainment though. All a bit modern and high tech for me. I like to press a button that says "radio" if I want the radio, or "CD" if I want that. No such luck in the GT-S - it's all menus and options and stuff. Confusing and fiddly when you're right handed, trying to crack on, and (being middle aged) need glasses to see small things up close. Oh to fit a nice Alpine radio/CD unit from the late 1980's or early 90's (as found in my Cup, Shamal, 400i, 355, 360, 280 SL, Atlantique, QP IV, 205, 309, 944, 911 and any of my other cars that I have squeezed them in to).
First impression is that I'm going to like this car. Should be sunny tomorrow, so I'll take it to work, take some snaps, and post them up.
On an unrelated issue, I popped by the Elliott Brown watch factory in Poole on the way. Treated myself to one of the limited edition Clipper Race yachting watches (they are a sponsor of this race, as am I). Properly tough sports watches at realistic prices. I suspect it will outlast the Maser!
