Cost of timber framed garages.

Potentially found a new house which is part of a farm yard conversion. It has everything the two of us need...except just one garage in the milking parlor.

The complex is grade 2 listed but also has a large patch of land to the side which would fit a 1 or 2 port garage and log store.

Has anyone had one made for them? Quality Oak version with doors. And if so roughly how much including ground works, power and roofing tiles (Edwardian/Victorian clay)

Thank you.

Hey Peter

I had a good look into wooden framed garages and outbuildings when doing my barn conversion. There are lots of companies that can do "off the shelf" builds on these that will meet all planning and listing criteria. If you search "timber garages and outbuildings" in Google, you'll find many to look though. For example, these guys offer various options http://www.warwickgarages.co.uk/

This is one from a quick search, there are many many more so it may not be the best example.

I was going to build a full on triple garage with room above made from oak. That was about £40k or so from memory. I think a good single garage will be £4-6k plus the base foundations which will be £1-2k.

Thanks pal. Prices are in the ball park of where I thought.

I doubt planning would be granted to a double hight unit as the complex is all low lying cow sheds and stables and £40k would push us towards the other build which has two garages already...the main barn has four!!!

Chart timber buildings

IMG_0476.jpgIMG_0476.jpgPete you've seen mine, two car ports, a garage and a workshop, so 4 bays in all. It's not all Oak, only front frame and roof is onduline. Whole lot including ground works and electrics was about £15,000 Fromm Chart timber buildings.....once ground works done, went up in a day.

At a previous house I had an two-bay oak frame garage built, with a tiled roof. It was about £14k fully built and completed, including the groundworks. There are always lots of adverts for these in the back of "Classic and Sportscar" magazine.

You probably have already Peter

But, have a chat with your LBA Conservation officer to see it there are likely to any problems with obtaining LBC. He will also tell you what materials you will need to build it from.............Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs!!!

Thanks for the replies all.

Looks like I will be going for the cheaper property as the cost of a garage is about 10-14k.

Will make an offer subject to planning consent being granted.
