I didn't forget and it is possible to get 500hp from your Elise.

It's a turbo charged Hyabusa motorcycle engine - one of the engineers I work with has got one to 559hp. He has said you will need to strip your car to less that 700Kgs to get the engine working as it has little torque. Is this possible?

The engine can get to 600+ but wont last very long unless you use special cylinder liners.

Apparently you can get an engine for less than a grand and the turbo kit is 4K.

Well, that has my attention!

How about the gearbox? Would it use the bike one?

actually it might not be too bad, as there'll be little in the way of torque surge....the red line will just go on and on!!

The standard gearbox which is fine, but its sequential and if you want reverse thats an extra 20KG conversion - or push it, of course if its spins or goes off track it may be useful!!! You will also need to add some plates or baffles in the oil pans as bike engines cant cope with lateral pressure. Must be on sticky slicks, have brakes that cool quicker and a remap.

I asked him what else and he said and i quote "a strong set of balls, harnesses and 100 octane" You are looking at near the 1000hp per ton

Ive not owned a Hayabusa but my old (very modified 210hp) GSX1000 revved to 18000 and the peak power was 12000-16000. But since it decided to play slidey with some oily tarmac, the engine is now in a lotus 7 rep and its a screaming nutjob.

Its making me think the same as well, might look into s1 elise and do the same but with a ZZR1400 engine.

I'd have to loose s few stone to get the best out of a lightweight track screamer, but they must be hilarious fun!
