I actually ended up buying the headunit and separate heating controls a while ago - it is a straightforward installation process (plug and play), retains all the setting controls as OEM and easy to swap back to OEM unit.
Overall I am very happy with the product. I got the v2.1 headunit and the gen 3 AC controls.
The 2.1 headunit had a large number of improvements and the gen 3 unit solved the battery disconnect/reset issue.
I think it looks great and is super easy to use. My phone auto starts a hotspot when the unit turns on (bluetooth) and I have google maps, DAB unit, internet radio, podcasts.
I'm sure the pureists (Mr Grace) will not approve, but it really improved my overall enjoyment of ownership.
As a side note, I would avoid large "tesla" screens as they run android apps, which are normally not optimised for that screen sizing. The screen size i have is like a compact tablet, so actually works quite well.
