DMS and spark plugs : Misfires

Hi,
had my QP in for a service about a fortnight ago and the technician told me that the engine was showing up as misfiring on 3 cyclinders. Using the computer he looked at what DMS had done and said this 'may' be a reason for the misfires. His concern was that with repeated misfires the front catalytic convertors can overheat due to their proximity to the engine which over a longer period causes the internal material to breakdown which can then be sucked back into the engine and trash it. He cleared all the error codes and ran the car again and no misfires occured so its possible the error code could have been there a long while (eg pre DMS). He said the main reason for misfires was when the spark plugs aren't changed at the correct interval. Mine were only changed last year so he thought the remap may be an issue.

I like the car post DMS and my thoughts go to the front catalytic convertors. Could you replace these with straight through pipes thereby eliminating the problem altogether?

Larini sports cats do away with the fronts so I imagine an exhaust specialist could remove them. If you got the rears replaced with 200 cell cats at the same time you would make it breath better. Have a word with Larini.

I use the iridiums and they have been perfect so far and i have had no issues at all with my DMS remap. She has run beautifully, so far.

I told Russell to leave them in at the last service as they are running really well. I must get round to having a look at them and see what the ends are like. If they are getting worn I am going to stick another set of Iridiums in. Oh, I am a rebel!
