Door won't open from inside - help!

My GranTurismo has developed a fault and the drivers door won't open from the inside, presumably electrical problem?
I have somehow stumbled upon a procedure of opening the passenger door, closing it, winding the drivers window down and releasing the door using the outside handle - but that isn't really ideal!
Can anyone help? Is there something simple that I can do or does it need to go in?

Hi Lee Jones Jnr

My 2006 Quattroporte developed a similar fault but I don't know if the QP mechanical arrangements are identical to the GranTurismo. In my case the drivers door would open from the outside but I was unable to open it inside the cabin. There was no resistance felt when operating the door handle. Emblem had dealt with this before and they quickly identified the problem. There was a breakage with part of the mechanism inside the door. Rather than replace the internals at great expense, they opted for a two pack adhesive repair with wire work for reinforcement and support. It took and hour and a half to complete.

Regards,

Paul

Thanks but this is definitely not a mechanical problem, it is something electrical. The lever has resistance but just won't quite 'click'.
Kinda reduces the enjoyment when you have to pull up and faff around to escape the car.

I would have thought mechanical, something either stretching or breaking, so not quite making?

Well, have been using the Sunday car and had the GT parked up, was booked in to be picked up by Maserati tomorrow but decided to have a run out in it today and it has magically fixed itself. Was/Is definitely an electrical issue.
