Educated guess why its started to sound like a clockwork orange...?

I was giving the car a shakedown prior to it's MOT early next week. I noticed that it started making a pronounced and light ticking sound that is engine speed related.
I hear another 4200 doing this ( bought by a forum member who reported no problems because of it but it was the reason I didnt follow up when looking for one ! !) Any one care to postulate why its started doing this , what is making it...?
Clips quite short but you get the idea...

Just sounds like the injectors if I’m honest. If the car had just been started from cold it’s probably your manifolds, see if it goes when fully warmed up.

Next thing after that would be the solenoid valves under each cam cover, we have replaced a few of late.

That is fully warm Matt..!
I am looking at solenoid replacement as ( at least 1 ) rattles something bad when its cold/start up. But lovely once running..

Mine sound like that with bonnet up - perhaps a bit quieter. Can't hear it at all with bonnet down. Assumed it was just tappet noise...

What does solenoid rattle sound like? I have a rattle on cold start that's never really any worse in three years assumed it was variator. To me it sounds a more like something hitting plastic or something plasticky, not metallic.

Variator rattle sounds like a bag of nails...! Should pass as pressure is built up - Mine rattles for a good few seconds. Its 'orrible.
When I said solenoid above, I mean variator really...They wont last forever like that and will get worse. They eventually fail to advance the valve timing and the engine runs like pregnant roadkill I believe... (somewhere around +3K rpms..someone will know !)

Car was left with the bonnet up and cooled for an hour or so- ticking sound all but gone.
Weirdness....good call Matt.

You’re saying it doesn’t make the noise when cold?
Matt called solenoid valve...Im saying he may be onto something...
The variator ( drivers side) is utter sh1te. Hot, cold...)makes no difference really !)
The solenoid (?), which just started this ticking nonsense; that has ceased once cooled...!
That's clear then...!

Ah! I’d read the manifold bit in Matt’s post not the solenoid bit. Mind of a goldfish.

Mine had the same issue last year, Can't quite remember what it was put down to, I'm thinking oilways, might be an idea to speak with Marios at Autoshield who do my servicing, the issue was sorted and hasn't come back since, he'll know.

Does it change with revs? Sounds like a knackered belt tensioner to me
It does alter with engine speed...
I did wonder if it was the belt myself. I recently replaced the crank case cover to get at the gaskets & stem a water & oil leak..so it has all been disturbed and put back, with a new belt. Perhaps its the dampener pulley coming off !!!?
Thing is, it sounds like cylinder head in origin but towards the rear...

It’s sounds very tinny to me so I’m still with Matt’s manifold suggestion.
Isnt it too metronomic to be anything but revolution derived..?
Mind you, it is too low now it's settled on its new legs, and I have to be careful of cats eyes that I dont wipe out the sump/cats/roll bar and such ! It has made 'earthly contact' down there, so its not beyond conceivable. In what sense would a manifold make that rhythmic, engine speed related noise, Tim ?

Anyway- Ill pull the belt to one side and run it with out and see what we have....although the truth is it really doesnt sound like the front of the motor to me either !
