Hi Guys,
I did post this as a follow up to another thread but no replies so I thought I'd do this as a seperate topic.

Just out of interest what paint is used on these engine? Goldish paint I mean as I noticed a couple of bits have chipped where someone obviously got carried away with the jet wash. Red part is perfect but the gold could do with soem touching up ut obviously needs to be the exact paint.

Cheers guys

Speedevilus.......in the same area of interest, can some one point up the remainder paints for the 4200/3200?

1. What the red is on the engine.

2. Standard wheel paint colour.

3. Standard wheel centre colour.

4. The paint used on the wiper arms.

Any others?

Thanks!

You can get the red rocker cover paint but I do not know where the gold comes from.

Re the wipers arms, as they should be replaced every 3rd removal???? as pe hand book I guess you should buy new ones from Eurospares.

Hi Andy, I suspect it's not gold paint but rather a heat resistant lacquer.

From memory - I've a feeling it is a gold/bronze wrinkle paint, not a laquer - simialr to the red paint in term of its appearance. I've got it flaking off my engine too, and you can see the metal underneath - wil try and get a pic and post it up. I haven't been able to find any for sale though. May be a maser only paint...

Its called Crinkle paint, the red is definately available not sure about the gold for the plenum , unusual that never heard of t coming off the plenum before only the rockers but i suppose as these cars get older its expected

Might be worth doing a quick search on crinkle paint i only brought it up a while a go and some one posted a supplier

A few links etc..................

http://www.finishing.com/0400-0599/409.shtml

These people sell something in the crinkle range......

http://www.frost.co.uk/

These people quoted as supplying similar......

http://www.coatings.org.uk/company_...v=217&branch=4&id=2753&coname=PLASTI-KOTE+LTD

"I have been painting Ferrari cam covers for 25 years as part of a major service task. Plastic-Kote #217 is safe for home use.I use 3 even medium to heavy coats, and a 250 watt heat lamp finish.
Most auto parts stores carry wrinkle finish paint. I use powder coat lately as time is not a factor on restoration.
cheers"

"And I would underline the "heat lamp" part !!
This is a must to get an even 'wrinkle'. I usually heat the part (toaster oven works great if the part is small) and put the spray can in the sun for a while to warm it up too!
Then a heat lamp as it is drying.
Do 3 light coats for small wrinkle and 2 light and 1 heavy coat for a larger effect.
Randy "

The above off the USA Alfa forum! Though this wasn't used on the engine!

Well, I don't know if we're ever going to be able to source the 'gold' paint on the plenum, TB and spark plug covers, but check this pic out:
Looks pretty good IMO!

You can have something called "dry steaming".... which doesnt disturb those delicate electrics
